To all whom t may concern.:
Be it known that I, EMoizY CRoUsE, av citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Wichita, county of Sedgwick, and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gasolene-Dispensers; and I do declare the following to'be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make` and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a dispensing device for gasolene to be used at filling stations, wherein means is provided at the outer end of a iexible dispensing hose for the control of a motor or other means which is employed for refilling the container at the top of the dispensing device from which the gasolene is directly dispensed.
In this form of constructiointhe dispensing hose is provided on its outer end with a discharge nozzle having a control valve so that the dispensing operation is controlled at the discharge end of said hose. The present `invention resides in providing means on said hose adjacent said nozzle for controlling the operation of la pump or the like to refill the .dispensing container at the top of the apparatus without making it necessary for the operator to leave his position at the gasolene tank of an automobile. As is frequently the case, such a gasolene tank has a capacity greater than the capacity of the dispensing container above mentioned, and heretofore it has been necessary for the operator` to return 'to the device in order torrefill the container. With the present means, necessity for this is eliminated.

In Fig. 1 a framework 10 is shown mounted upon a base 12 for su porting the struc` ture, the upper end of this framework bein housing, which has been omitted V,from the drawings for sake of clearness. A cylindrical lass container 18 is sealed upon the top of t e bowl 15 and is provided with a cover 19, the parts being securely retained in operative relation by means of a tie-rod or draw-rod 20 whose lower end is fixed in the partitioning bottom 16 and whose upper end is iiXed to said cover 19. An air valve 21 is conveniently provided in said. cover 19. A crown 22 is provided'. at the top of the transparent container 18 and carries there above a large globe 23 which receives a crown light 24, and in practice may carry advertising display. For purposes of illumination, a series of small li hts 25 are provided on the under side o the crown 22, all of these lights bein supplied through wires contained in con uits 26 connected with a main system of conduits 27. The upper branch of the conduit system 27 is provided with a switch 28 to control the lights 24 and 25. e
A filling pi e line 30 is provided, its upper end passing t rough the bottom 16 and its lower end leading' to a pump 31 driven by an electric motor 32 receiving the supply of f gasolene through a pipe 33 connected with a supply or storage tank, not shown. An overflow pipe 34 also extends through said bottom 16 to a point adjacent the top of the transparent container 18, the top of this pipe determining the height of the gasolene within said container. A drain line 35 has its upper end also connected with said bottom 16 and its lower end connectedwith the overflow pipe 34 by means of a T 36, a valve 38 being provided in said drain line 35 to close the same normally. The overiiow pipe 34 is connected with the 'storage tank, not shown, to return gasolene thereto. A connection 40 is also let into said bottom 16'and leads to a special meter 41 whose lower end communicateswith a re-l end with a valve-controlled nozzle 45 operable by a handle 46 in well-hewn fashion. Adjacent said valve-controlled nozzle 45 the hose 44 is provided with a protecting sleeve or shield 48 upon which there is slidably mounted a hand-grip 49 connected with an operating cable 50 slidable in a guide tube 51 secured to the hose 44 and extending the length thereof. At the upper end ofthe hose a small pulley 52 is provided over which the cable 50 passes to the free end of a lever 53, which isffulcrumed at 54 on an arm 55 secured to the conduit 27, which receives the wires W for supplying electric current. The lever 53 isprovided with an operating spindle 56 which extends into `a swltch S on the conduit 27 for the purpose of controlling the ow of current. A
spring 57 is disposed between the switch S and the lever 53 for the purpose of opening the switch when 1t is not positively operated by draft upon the cable 50 from the hand-grip 49. To insure opening of said switch, a second spring 58 may conveniently bev provided,ione end of which bears against the lever 53, saidsprng being mounted upon a pin 59 secured at 60 to the conduit 27.
This switch S controlsthe flow of current 1' through a system of wiring within the conduit 27 and in a brancli conduit 127 which leads directly to the electric motor 32.
In operatlon of the device, the transparent container 18 is filled through pipe 30 by operation of the motor 32, the level within the container being determined by the overiow pipe 34. The container is also adapted to be drained through the line 35 and valve 38. These' features in eneral are disclosed in my former Patent o. 1,304,028 of May 20, 1919. "The gasolene in the container 18 is then discharged through the nozzle 45 into the automobile gasolene tank, graduations being provided on. said container 18 to indicate the amount so dispensed. The container 18 may` then be refilled without the operators leaving his station at said automobile gasolene tank, by grasping the handgrip 49 and sliding it outward on said hose 44, so as to causethe cable 50 to move the lever 53 inward to close the switch S. This position is maintained until the pump 32 has refilled the container 18 when said grip 49 is released.
In addition to the preferred form above described, an electric switch 65 may be provided adjacent said nozzle 45, as shown in Fig. 4, the electric wires W being housed in a flexible conduit 66 on the hose 44.

Anydesign of air valve 78 may be used which will upon rotation of the rod 74 permit the passage of air through a compressed air line 80 past said valve and thence through a line 82 into the storage tank, not shown as above indicated, whereby gasolene will be forced up through a filling pipe line corresponding to condult 33 and line 30 into the container 18. 2. A liquid dispensing apparatus comprising a container, a liquid supply from which to fill said container, means operable to cause liquid to be moved from said supply to the container, a flexible conduit for discharge of liquid from said container and means mounted on said conduit to control said operable means, whereby filling ofsaid container maybe controlled from the outer end of said conduit.
3. A liquid dispensing apparatus comprising a liquid container, aliquid supply connected with said container, means to l move liquid from said supply to said con-.
tainer to fill the latter, a fiexible conduit connected with said container, a valve on the free end of said conduit to control discharge of liquid from the container through the conduit, and means mounted on said conduit adjacent said valve for controlling said liquid movin means whereby fillin of said container 1s controllable from sai free end of said conduit.
