To (all 10110220525 may concern Be it known that I, ELBERN ELMER BUL- Lls, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rouse Point, in the countyof Clinton and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Racks and Holding Means; and I do hereby declare the following 'to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in devices or means for holding merchantable articles or goods, more especially of the rotary type, the same also serving as a display rack for such goods or articles.

The invention has for its object to provide for the convenient and advantageous holding of certain articles of merchandise, as called for especially in the retail store trade, as for instance screen or wire cloth, linoleum-paper, carpets, etc.

A further object of the invention is to provide for carrying out these purposes in a simple, inexpensive, and effective manner.

Other objects of the invention will be apparent from the following description of the construction, operation, and arrangement of the same.

The invention consists therefore of certain instrumentalities and features of construction substantially as hereinafter more fully disclosed and defined ed claims.

The accompanying drawing illustrates the preferred embodiment or one form of my invention, wherein it will be understood that various changes and modifications as to the detailed construction and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of my invention as covered by the claims.

As characteristic features of my invention. I enrploy opposite end-members 1, preferably of disk or circular outline, or they may be of other contour as to that matter, secured centrally to an axis 2, havmg projecting end-portions 2* journaled in end uprights or standards 3 suitably adapted as at 3, to anchor them in stable position. A cranked handle 4 is suitably held, with the aid of a nut or otherwise, upon an angular formation at one end 2 of the axis 2 for suitably turning the device in disposing the desired material for convenient examination, said angular terminals or formations also saving fixed thereon peripherally notched disks engaged by pawls or detents, as presently explained. Adapted to engage the notches of the disks 5 are pawls or detents 6 suitably positioned in the standards 3 and having inflexible or rod connection 7 with pedals S for the retention at the required adjustment of the notched disks. The standards 3 are preferably adjustably held within the sections 3 in any suitable way, as by providing the shanks of the pawls and the standards with coinci dent perforations 8 with which perforations are adapted to engageadjusting pins or bolts S for accommodating the device to the height of the counter upon which it may be desired to place it.

Any desired number of spindles 9, upon which are to be suspended or supported the bolts or rolls of wire cloth, linoleum-paper, carpet or other article for display or examination, are supplied to the disks or enclmembers, 1. Each spindle is preferably formed of a bar or rod angular in transverse section, the terminals thereof, however, adapted to be inserted through orifices or apertures in the disks or end-members 1, each of said terminals having applied thereto preferably a retaining latch 11 for the ready removal or detachability of the spindles 9. Upon each spindle are adjustably fitted resiliently cushioned conical holders 12, adapted to be received or inserted into the central tubular like space of the roll of goods or wire cloth placed upon the spindle, thus providing for readily supporting the bolts' of wire-cloth are goods thereon and out of frictional contact therewith as is appreciable, T he'resilient or spring cushion of the conical holder, designated as 13, may be held at one end in any suitable way as by a pin or bolt 13"-, and a washer 13 said pin or retaining means being insertible transversely through any one of a plurality of perforations 14 in the spindle and whereby a conical. holder 12 may be adjustably positioned upon the spindle to accommodate the size of the bolt or roll of material for retention between the end members or disks.

A rod or bar member 15 for the suitable retention or holding down of the free-end portions of the cloth or material being wound or rolled upon the spindles, has its ends secured to arcuate or quadrant-shaped arms l5 pivotally connected to the end or disk members, said arms being held under pressure by means of resilient elements or springs 15 secured to said arms and said disk-members.

From the foregoing it is considered that the construction, operation, arrangement and advantages of my invention will be clearly understood and appreciated.

Having described my invention, what 1 claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A dispensing device comprising spaced disks having registering perforations adjacent their peripheries, bars extending between the disks and mounted in the perforations, conical holders slidable upon the bars, springs positioned to move the conical keepers toward each other and means to vary the osition and tensions of the springs.

2. The combination with spaced disks having apertures adjacent their peripheries of bars extending from and in parallelism with the axis of the disks, conical holders arranged in pairs and slidable upon said bars wlth their apexes adj acent each other, springs engaging the bases aperture to aperture of said conical holders, collars slidable on the bars in the rear of the springs, and means to adjust the position of the collars upon the bars. I

3. A dispensing apparatus comprising spaced disks mounted upon a common axis, bars extending between the disks in parallelism with each other and with the axis, means for retaining the bars in engagement with the disks adjacent their peripheries, means to prevent rotation of the bars relative .to the disks, mounted upon the bars with their apexes directed toward each other, springs slidable upon the bars and engaging the bases of the conical holders, collars slidable upon the bars and engaging the springs and pins insertible through the bars at the rear of the collars for adjusting the collars upon the bars and the tension of the springs. 4. A device of the type described, includ ing opposed spaced-apart members, spindles intermediate said members, conical holders arranged upon said spindles, resilient members adapted to cushion sa-id holders thereon, each spindle being angular in transverse section for retention against turning and provided with a plurality of adjusting ori- Iices, a member insertible in any of said orifices, and means interposed between said resilient members and said insertible member for aiding the tensioning of said resilient members.

5. A dispensing device comprising spaced disks having apertures formed in their peripheries, bars inserted in the apertures, keepers pivoted to the disks and adapted to retain the bars in engagement, conical holdconical holders slidablyers slidable upon the bars with their apexes directed toward each other and yielding members adjustably slidable in the rear of said conical holders.
