Be it known that I, MERVIN F. WALT, a' citizen of the United States, and a resident of Huron, in the county of Beadle and State Specification'of Letters Patent.

of South Dakota, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Neckties, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. I

My invention relates to improvements in neckties, and it consists in the combinations, constructions, and arrangements herein described .and claimed.

An object of my invention is to provide a necktie which will not become wrinkled in service.

,A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the type described in which means is provided for holding a stick pin thrust therethrough to prevent the same from being accidentally disengaged.

A further object of my invention is to provide-a device of'the type described that can be slidably moved between the wings of a collar easily, can be adjusted to a collar readily, and which presents a neat and attractive appearance when folded and tied in an ordinary manner.

A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the type described which is simple in construction and which is thorou hly practical commercially.

It 1s a well known fact that a tie, such as is now in common usage, will become wrin kled after having been in service a short time. It is then diflicult to adjust such a tie to a collar and the tie, when adjusted, presents'an unattractive appearance. Furthermore, it is diflicult to press a wrinkled tie to restore the original appearance of the same. having been worn a comparatively short time.

A tie embodying my invention can be worn indefinitely and will retain its smooth unwrinkled appearance.

In carrying out my invention, I .provide an outer cover 1, which is of suitable fabric and is modeled in shape after an approved pattern. An inner lining of a conventional pattern and shape is disposed within the outer cover 1. This inner lining consists of end strips of suitable fabric 2 and 3 and an intermediate strip ,4: which is of elastic material, such as rubber. The intermediate strip 4 is secured at its ends to the end strips 2 and 3 in any suitable manner, as by stitching 5. A relatively narrow strip of tape 6 is secured along each upper side edge 'of the intermediate strip 4 for a purpose hereinafter set forth. Apertures 7 are pro-.

vided in the intermediate strip 4 at a predetermined point intermediate its length. An auxiliary strip or patch 8 of elastic material is secured to the strip 4 by stitches 9, as shown in Fig. 3 ofthe accompanying drawings, or may be secured thereto in any other suitable manner. The strip 8 covers the portion of the strip that would ordinarily be pierced by a tie pin 10.

From the foregoing desecription of the various parts of the device,- the operation thereof may be readily understood. The tie is adjusted to a collar in the usual manner, a knot 11 being formed, as shown in Fig. 3. When the tie is removed, the elastic strip 4, which was folded when the knot 11 was formed, will regain its original shape and will thereby prevent wrinkles from forming in the outer cover 1.

Furthermore, a tie pin inserted through the elastic strip 4 will remain in position,

since a gripping pressure will be exerted against the shank of the tie pin by the elastic material. The auxiliary strip 8 of elastic is provided to cover the portion of the strip 4: that would ordinarilybe pierced by the tie pin and consequently the tie pin is inserted through both the strip 8 and the stripe, and is more firmly maintained in position.

The apertures 7 permit the tie to be adjusted to a collar in an ordinary manner without the same assuming a bulky appearance at the knot 11. The knot is prevented from slipping by the portions of the elastic fabric about the apertures 7 in the strip dinary c mmercial type are discarded after A being pressed toward each other.

The strips 6 of tape along the side edges of the elastic strip 4: serve to pre vent the elastic material in the strip 4 from being distorted laterally and also take up the strain which would otherwise be placed on the cover of the tie when the same is being adjusted to a collar.

It will be obvious that a tie embodying my invention can be Worn until the outer cover is threadbare without pressing and will during the entire term of service present a smooth and unwrinkled appearance.

It is also obvious that forms of apparel other than that illustrated in the accompanying drawings may embody my invention without departing from the spirit and scope thereof, as disclosed in the foregoing specification and set forth more particularly in the appended claims.

I claim: i

1. A necktie comprising an outer cover of fabric and an inner lining disposed within said outer cover substantially the entire length thereof, said inner lining consisting of end strips of fabric, an intermediate strip of fabric and an inner lining disposed With-- in said outer cover substantially the entire inserted through said auxiliary strip of elastic and said first named strip of elastic, thereby tending to maintain said pin in position.

3. A neck tie comprising an outer cover of fabric, and an inner lining disposed within said outer cover, said inner lining consisting of end strips of fabric, and an intermediate strip of elastic material secured at its ends to said end strips, said intermediate strip having an elongated opening formed therethrough intermediate its length and intermediate the side edges thereof.

4. A necktie comprising an outer cover of fabric and an inner lining disposed Within said outer cover, said inner lining consisting of end strips of fabric and an intermediate strip of elastic material secured at its ends to said end strips andi a strip: of tape disposed along each side edge of said intermediate elastic strip.

5. A necktie comprising an outer cover of fabric and an inner lining disposed within said outer cover, said inner lining consisting of end strips of fabric and an intermediate strip of elastic material secured at its ends to said end strips, said intermediate strip having a plurality of spaced apart elongated openings formed therethrough intermediate its length and spaced from the side edges thereof.
