Be it known that l, Josnrn EDOUARD Ln- DUC, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Montreal, Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and use- Jful improvements in Sanitary Masks; and l do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

rlhe present invention has relation to new and useful improvements in sanitary masks for barbers, dentists and surgeons or the like and its object is to provide a device of this character which can be used for the purpose of shielding the wearer from the breath ci the customer or patient, whichever it might be.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of an integral sheet of Celluloid, in the iorm of a mask, adapted to lit over the mouth of the wearer or the nose and mouth to ward oli the offensive breath of the person in the chair.

The invention also consists of the further novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form,

Referring to the figures by numerals of reference, 1 designates the mask proper which is preferably struck or cut out of a sheet of Celluloid and forming the main section 2 and end sections 3 and il. rihe main or central section 2 is formed with the side extensions 5 and G, while the end sections 3 and 4c are formed with the side extensions 7 and 8.

These extensions 5, 6, 7 and 8 are folded over on lines 10 and are connected together by the rivets 9 thereby forming the mask casing.

Straps 10 and 11 are secured at one ci their ends to the end sections 3 and i and strap 10 carries a buckle member 12 adapted tor the reception of the apertured end of strap 11, so that the mask may be buckled to the head of the wearer.

-The mask sections 3 and 4L are provided with air openings 12 and the side extensions 5 and 6. are provided with the small spaced apart air openings 13 and the large opening 14 respectively.

.The edge portion of the central extensions 5 and 6 are cut inwardly as at 15, while the'eiid extensions 7 and 8 have their edge p ortions cut in arcuate plane and form a continuation of the curved edge portions 15. in this manner the curvature of the mask extensions 5, 6, 7 and 8 corresponds to that of the face of the wearer. 1

The mask may be used to cover the mouth as illustrated in Fig. 1, or' it may cover beth the nose and mouth.

Likewise when the mask is to be used for surgical work or for use in' connection with the treatment of contiguous diseases, gauze or cotton batting saturated with a suitable disinfectant may be inserted within the central part of the mask.

ln this manner objectionable breath odors will not be inhaled by the wearer of the mask and likewise the risk of contracting diseases by means of breath germs is reduced to a minimum.

Having thus fully described my invention, what l claim as'new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is ln a mask such as described, the combination of a single blank of material, comprising front and side members, anges formed upon the opposite edges or" said front and side members, said flanges overlapping, rivets extending through the overlapping portion of the flanges for securing the same together, and the flanges when overlapped liiorming acontinuous 'curved line to engage the tace of the wearer, said anges formed upon the Jfront member having openings therein, and the side members also having openings therein, with straps formed upon the side members for strapping the mask to the face of the wearer.
