To all whom it may 007l067%$ Be it known that 1, WILLIAM F. Lame, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cumberland, in the county of Allegany and State of'Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Demountable Rims; and I do hereby declare the fol lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invent-ion relates to a demountable rim, and the object is to provide certain novel means for locking the rim in position without the use of detachable fastening devices.
A further object is to provide for mounting the rim by imparting the usual movement thereto transversely of the felly and of the permanent rim, and then imparting to the demountable rim a movement circumferentially of the wheel.
A still further object is to provide means whereby the demountable rim is positively locked in position after the aforesaid circumferential movement has been imparted thereto.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of elements hereinafter described and claimed.

Fig. 3 shows a demountable rim detached from the permanent rim and from the wheel.
Figs. 4 and 5 are details of construction described below.
In carrying out my invention I employ a permanent rim 10 suitably mounted on a felly 12, the latter being provlded w1th radial bores designated at 1 1 and spaced apart at suitable intervals about the vfelly.
.Bores 15 of reduced diameter communicate with bores 14 and extend to the inner surface of the folly, the bores last named accommodating locking pins 16 each provided with square heads 17.
The pins are encircled at points adjacent to the heads by coil springs 18, the latter bearing against the shoulders 19 formed at the junction of the larger and smaller bores.
The demountable rim 10 is provided with slots which'm'ay be termed bayonet slots, each including a portion 26 extending transversely of the rim, and a portion 27 extending at an angle with portion 26, and there fore circumferentially of the rim 10.
The demountable rim designated at 20 is provided with inwardly extending lugs 21 adapted to enter the opening portions of the slots 26 when the rim 20 is moved transversely of the wheel. The rim last named is then given a partial rotary movement and the lugs 21 enter the slots 27 and are locked in that position by thernovenient of the locking pins 16 and more particularly of their square heads 17 into engaging position under action of the springs 18.
It is obvious that the locking pins must be moved out of operative position when demounting the rim and prior to the operation of mounting said element." The locking pins having been moved inwardly by manual pressure they are retained in that position by passing a pin 22 through an opening 22, the pin engaging the inner surface of the felly. Another opening 23 is also provided in the pin and the latter receives a tapered key 24 which under normal circumstances engages the inner surface of the folly.
It will therefore be observed that I have provided a demountable rim which may be securely locked without the necessity of making use of detachable securing devices and that the device as a whole is not only economicallyv manufactured, but in every way serves the purpose intended.
