UNITED sTATEs PATENT oFFlcE.
ROBERT T. HUNT, OF COSHOCTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE HUNT-CRAWFORD CO., OF
l COSHOCTON, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
ICE-CREAM CONTAINER.
' Specification of Letters Patent.
l Application led August 2, 1919. Serial No. 314,974.
To all/whom t may concern. A
Be it known that I, ROBERT T. HUNT, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Coshocton, in the county of Coshocton-and Y State of Ohio, have invented a new and usearound the can and well over the top to preas a consequence of the disks of the container. v
vent the ice-cream from melting in transit and until ready to be served. The cost of the tin receptacle, thev wooden bucket and the packing of the. ice around the same 1s a matter of great expense, and forms a heavy cumbersome article to be dellvered, while the bulk takes up a great deal of room in the delivery wagon. Furthermore, after the delivery of the ice-cream, the buckets and cans have to be called for to be returned to the factory, and in the meantime -very often the lid of the can has become misplaced or lost, and through pressure of business very oftenthe returnA of the bucket andvcan is delayed so that very often both are missing when they are called fr, and
eat loss and inconvenience is occasioned y this system. y
rIhe object of my invention is to provide va compact lightl package in which the icecream is delivered and in-'which it can be kept in a frozen state for hours without the employment of any ice. The container being formed of cardboard when once used may be destroyed or thrown away, thereby dispensing with all the expense and inconvenience of the return of the container to the factory.
To these ends my invention `comprises the. novel features hereinafter set forth and claimed.
' In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of my improved container ready for shipment; Fig. 2 is a cross section of same on the line 2-'2 Fig. l; Fig. is a perspective view of one In the drawing the numeral 2 designates the outer container which is formed of pasteboard or other material of a like character which will have the necessary strength and rigidity, lbut which can `be produced at low cost. In the bottom of the outer container 2 is located a disk 3 formed of corrugated paper board composed of a layer of corrugated board and then a plain layer. In this manner the air spaces between the layers of the disk form air cells which provide a dead-air space at the bottom` of the outer container 2.
To provide a like dead-air space around the inner walls of the container 2 and the lnner container` 4,`I provide a roll of corrugated paper 5 in the form of a shell made up Patented May 3, 1921.l
of several spirallywound convolutions and .into which the inner containen/i is inserted. The air cells of the surrounding corrugated cylinder provide for the insulation of the walls of the inner container 4.
The inner container 4 is provided with the lid 6.
Resting on the lid 6of the inner container is the, ,disk 7 of the same construction as the disk 3 which provides for the insulation of the top of the container.
l dThe outer container is provided with the When the inner container 4 is filled with ice-cream the cover 6 is applied and the container is inserted into the outer container with its bottom resting upon the disk 3 and its outer walls surrounded by the corrugated roll 5. The top disk 7 is then applied and the cover 8 adjusted on theouter container, whereupon the container is ready for transportation.
Practical experience has proven that icecream transported in my improved container will keep for many hours in a hard frozen thermore, from a sanitary standpoint, there is a great advantage in the use of a single service package.
After the ice-cream has been delivered and removed from the container the container may be destroyed or thrown away, thereby dispensing with all the expense and trouble of collectm the buckets and cans heretofore employe for this purpose, and returning them to the factory. if
What I claim is:-
An ice-cream container comprising a cylindrical outer container formed of pasteboard or like material, a corrugated paper board disk at the bottom of said outer con- 1I tainer, a cylindrical shell formed of a plurality of spirally wound convolutions of corrugated paper board and fitting Within said outer container, a removable inner container vof pasteboard or like material, adisk on top of said inner container, and a lid for said outer container.
In testimony whereof, I, the said ROBERT T. HUNT, have hereunto set my hand.
