IMPROVEMENT IN SHUTTER-FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.
137,647, dated April 8, 1873; application filed November 20, 1872.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Miss ELLEN D. AN- DERSON, of Frederick, in the county of Frederick and State of Maryland, have invented a Shutter-Fastener, of which the following is a specification:
The invention consists in combining a telescopic lock-bolt with two notched brackets, arranged one near the inside, rear, and bottom end of each shutter, whereby the shutters may not only be securely looked together or back against the house, but may be bowed or locked at various intermediate points, to afford a larger or smaller opening, and a greater or less degree of light and air.

through which passes one of the rods 0?, while the other itself slides in tube F These parts are so connected that they form a telescopic joint, and cannot come apart. The operation is as follows: The shutters being closed against the weather-strip G, the lock-bolt at its shortest length is dropped into an end notch of each flange al and thus made to effectually prevent the shutters from being opened from the outside. lock the shutters back to their utmost limit, they are turned thereto, and the lock-bolt, bein g drawn to its greatest length, is inserted in the opposite end notches. If it is desired that the shutters be bowed orfastened with a greater or less opening, the lock-bolt is shortened accordingly, and dropped into intermediate notches.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A shutter-fastener, consisting of the two notched brackets D D, and telescopic lockbolt E, constructed and applicable substantially as described.
