Description
FRANK F. HANS EN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO HANSEN-HALLIBURTON MFG. COMPANY. OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
ELECTRICAL-RESISTANCE ALLOY.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK F. HANSEN, a citizen of the United States, residin at Chicago,in the county of Cook and tate of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in ElectricaLResistance Alloys, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in electrical resistance alloys.
The invention is an improvement in those alloys such as used for electrical heating resistance units in flat irons, electric stoves, toasters, etc., and the object of the invention is to provide such a resistance which will be comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, which will have a high fusing point, which will have long life, and which will have all the qualities desirable in an alloy required to be drawn, and bent for commercial purposes.
In carrying out my invention, I combine chromium, copper, tungsten and molybdenum. The chromium and copper are employed in a preponderating quantity because of their relative cheapness and conductivity and the tungsten and molybdenum are used in comparatively small quantities with the amount of tungsten somewhat exceeding the amount of molybdenum.
I have found that the alloy may begmade containing the elements within the limits indicated:
Chromium 30% to 60% Copper 30% to 60% Tungsten' 2% to 5% Molybdenum 1% to 3% The factors of cost, fusing point, conductivity, length of life, etc., taken into consideration, I have found that the following Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr; 19, 1921.
Application filed September 19, 1919. Serial No. 324,983.
approximate percentages give the greatest efficiency:
Copper -1 50% Chromium Tungsten 3% Molybdenum 2% amounts of. tungsten and molybdenum, the
combined amount of tungsten and molybdenum being less than 10% with the tungsten in excess of the molybdenum.
2. An electrical resistance alloy containing, chromium 30% to 60%; copper 30% to 60%; and less than 10% of tungsten and molybdenum combined, the tungsten being in excess of the molybdenum. I
3. An electrical resistance alloy containing, chromium ffom 30% to 60%, copper from 30% to 60%, tungsten from 2% to 5%,
molybdenum from 1% to 3%. 1
4. An electrical resistance alloy containing, copper approximately chromium approximately 45 tungsten approximately 3%, molybdenum approximately-2%. f;
In witness that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto subscribed my name this 2d day of Sept, 1919.
' FRANK F/HANSEN;
Witness META SCHMIDT.
