STEAD A. .ASQUITI-I, OF WATERLOO, IOWA.
.AIR-HOSE SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 1e, 1921.
Application filed February 10, 1920. Serial No. 357,669.
T o all whom. t may concern.'
Be it lniown that I, S'rnnn A. llisoUiTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at WVaterloo, in the county of Blackhawk and duction of a support which will normally hold the air hose directly over the center of the automobile thus keeping it off the ground and will at the same time allow easy access for applying the hose to either side of the car.
Another object of the invention is to provide a support which will normally be in a position so as to hold the hose in an inoperative position.
A still further object of the invention is to provide means whereby the support will only operate so as to allow the use or the hose when a coin is inserted into a coin receiving mechanism provided in the support.
lVith these and other objects in View, this invention consists of certain novel arrangements, constructions and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a. side elevation of the preferred form of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary vertical section taken through the upper portion of the post showing the locking mechanism for the lever.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary vertical section taken through the lower portion of the post showing the coin receiving mechanism.
Fig. 4 is a section taken at right angles to the View shown in Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a section taken through the end of the hose supporting lever, and
Fig. 6 is a slightly modified view of my invention.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, it will be seen that 1 designates a hollow post which is vertically situated upon the ground and will be usually situated along the curb or side of the road adj acent the garage. This post 1 has situated at its top a collar 2 which has extended vertically therefrom the standards 3 which are diametrically opposed and parallel to each other. A lever 5 which is also hollow is pivotally mounted between the standards 3 by means of the bolt and nut 4. The leverv 5 is provided with the handle 6 which has at its extremity the weight or ball 7 which will normally hold the lever in the position shown in Fig. 1. At the other extremity of the lever 5 there is provided the hook portion 8 which is provided with a slot 9 for a purpose to be hereinafter set forth.
A hose 10 having a tire attachment 11 extends to a compressed air tank and passes` a short distance from the post l and then extends into the lever 5 around'the hook portion 8. When it is desired to use the hose it will be seen that the lever 5 will take the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1 so that the hook 8 will be positioned over the center of the automobile and the hose attaching means 11 may be used to attach the hose to the tire for inserting air therein.
Adjacent the fulcrum of the lever 5 is situated the arcuate guide plate 12 which has a notch therein for receiving the latch let which is pivoted at 14 and attached to the bar 15. The latch 13 when inserted in the notch in the plate 12 will normally hold the lactuated so as to pull downwardly upon the bar 15 thereby releasing the latch 14 which will allow the lever 5 to take the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1.
The modification shown in Fig. 6 is of practically the same construction as the preferred embodiment of my invention just described. This modication consists of a device which may be attached to the side of a wall when so desired or on front of a garage so as to extend outwardly, 21 being directly over curb. It consists of the pipe 2O which extends at right angles to the wall 22 and has the upwardly extending portion 21 connected thereto by means of an l.. The rest of the construction is the same as the con struction described in myl preferred modification with the exception that the coin mechanism is eliminated.
The above description relates to what 1 might call the preferred embodiment of my invention and I wish it understood that I may make such changes in arrangements, combinations and constructions of parts as may fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. In combination with an air hose of a support consisting of a vertical hollow post, a Collar situated upon the top end of said post, standards.diametrcally opposed and vertically extending from said collar, a lever pivotally mounted between said standards, said lever provided with a handle having a Weight at its extremity for normally holding the same in a substantially vertical position, the other end of said lever provided with a hook shaped portion having a slot therein, said hose adapted to extend through said lever.
2. In combination with an air hose of a support consisting of a vertical hollow post, a collar situated upon the top end of said post, standards vertically extending from and dialnetrically disposed upon said collar, a hollow lever pivotally mounted between said standards, said lever provided with a handle having a weight at its extremity for normally holding same in a vertical position, the other end of said lever being provided with a hooked portion having a slot therein, an arcuate plate situated adjacent the ulorum point of said lever and means provided for engaging said arcuate plate for holding said lever in a substantially vertical position.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
