Be it known that I, HERBERT J. KEITH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Freeport, county of Stephenson, and State of'Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp- Shade Holders, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to shade holders more particularly designed for use on incandescent vapor lamps and seeks to provide a simple construction which. can be economically manufactured and which is provided with adjustable means for snugly engaging the neck or opening of the lamp shade to hold the latter securely in position. The invention consists in the features of improvement hereinafter set forth, illustrated in the preferred form in the accompanying drawing and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the drawing, Figure 1 is a view in elevation of the upper portion of an incandes cent vapor lamp with the improved shade holder applied thereto-the shade and holder being shown in section. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail section and Fig. 3 is aplan view of the improved shade holder with the neck engaging fingers in the position assumed by these parts before the shade holder is placed in use.

The improved shade holder is formed of a plate and preferably of a disk A of'thin sheet metal, such as brass or soft annealed steel. The disk is slightly dished or coned so as to form a flaring support, the edge portion a of which isadapted to extend beneath the upper portion of the lamp shade B. .In the construction shown, the upper central portion a of the shade holder is flattened and is provided with a central opening 0. The supporting edge or rimu of the shade holder, as stated, extends beneaththe upper portionof the lamp shade to sustain the weight thereof, while the bendable fingers fwhich adjustably fit within the neck ofv the shadehold the latter against movement upon the supporting rim.

Obviously, changes may be made in the details set forth without departure from the essentials of the invention as defined in the claims.

3. A holder for lamp shades comprising a sheet metal disk having a central portion,

adapted to engage the upper end of the lamp and a flaring body ortion provided with a supporting rim a apted to extend beneath the upper portion of the shade, ventilating openings, and a series of radial fingers cut out of the body portion of the disk between the rim and central portions thereof, said fingers extending inwardly from said rim and adapted to be bentrupwardly and adjusted to snugly fit the inner wall of the neck of the shade, substantially as described.

A holder for lamp shades comprising a pressed sheet metal disk of conical form having a perforated central portionadapted to engage the upper end of the lamp and flaring body adapted to extend beneath the upper portion of the lamp shade, said disk having ventilating openings formed vtherein, and a series of radial, inwardly extending fingers adapted to be adjustably bent to snugly fit within the neck of the shade, substantially as described. 1
