ATTACHMENT FOR TRACTOR-WHEELS.
Application filed June 19, 1920. Serial .No. 390,124.
side thereof, the annulus including an out-- wardly curved or flared fiangewhich projects an appreciable distance beyond the periphery of the wheel.
An important object of the invention resides in the novel construction of means utilized for securing the attachment to the wheel in position for use.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understoodwhen the following detailed description is'read in connection with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the wheel showing the attachment in position thereon.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 looking from the opposite side of the wheel.
Fig. 4 is'aperspective view of the attachment. 7
Referring to the drawing in detail, 10 indicates the front wheel of a tractor which is easily provided with a rim or the like at 11, which extends around the center of the periphery of the wheel.
The attachment forming the subject matter of my invention comprises an annulus 12 adapted to surround the tread of the wheel 10 and wholly to one side of the rim 11. The annulus is formed with a curved or flared flange 18 of a greater diameter than the diameter of the wheel. and which when the attachment is in position upon the wheel is Specification of Letters Patent. Pgfi gniged Apr. 12,1921.
arranged wholly beyond the outer side of the wheelasshown in Pig. 2. Projecting inwardly from the inner side of the annulus 12 are spaced radially disposed apertured lugs 14, through which the stems of fastening bolts 15 are passed, the bolts being formed with curved extremities 16 to hook over the inner edge of the wheel 10, while the opposite ends of the bolts are threaded to accommodate nuts 17 by means of which the attachment may be drawn upon the wheel in the direction of the rim 11 against which the annulus 12 bears. This construction provides for a quick application to or removal of the attachment from the wheel as the occasion may require. With the attachment in position upon the wheel, it. causes the wheel to follow the listed ridge which is found in listed corn. A It is of course understood that the attachment is only used with the front wheel of the tractor as the rear wheels will follow any ridge where the front wheels will guide them. The attachment forming the subject matter of my invention may be constructed from any suitable material and also may vary in size and configuration without departing from the spirit of the invention.
While it is believed that from the foregoing description, the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that what is herein shown and described is merely illustrative of one embodiment of the invention, and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
What is claimed is 2- 1. An attachment for tractor wheels having a centrally disposed rim, an attachment comprising an annulus adapted to surround a portion of the tread of the wheel, and formed to provide an outwardly curved or flared portion of greater diameter than the diameter of the wheel and wholly disposed to one'side thereof, radially disposed apertured lugs carried by said annulus, and fastening elements engaging said lugs and the opposite side of the wheel for holding the attachment in position for use.
2. An attachment for tractor wheels having a centrally disposed annular rib, said attachment comprising an annulus surrounding a portion of the tread of the wheel and bearing against said rib, said annulusbeing formed with an outwardly curved or flared portion of a diameter greater than the diameter of the wheel and wholly disposed to one side thereof, and means for detachably securing the attachment to the wheel and holding said annulus in effective engagement with said rib.
3. An attachment for tractors comprising an annulus surrounding a portion of the tread of the wheel, said annulus being formed to provide an outwardly.curved or flared portion of a diameter greater than the diameter of the wheel and wholly disposed to one side thereof, apertured lugs projecting inwardly from sa d annulus be 0nd the inner periphery of the wheel and astening elements associated with said lugs and having hook like extremities for engaging the opposite side of the wheel as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
ELLIS H. CHADDER-DON.
