This mventlon relates to lmprovements 1n identlficatlon devlces, and more particularly to devices for identifying babies in hospitals and the like.

A further object is to provide an identification device which can be readily assembled to indicate the name of the child, and which can be quickly and easily positioned around the neck or arm of the child and sezlliled so as to prevent possibility of mis ta e.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the 7 claims.

In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating my improved identification device in use;

Fig. 4 is an enlarged view in transverse section on the line H of- Fig. 2.

My improved identification device comprises a series of beads 1 containing preferably letters so that the assemblage of these beads on a string or wire 2 will spell the name of the child, the initials of the mother, or any other word or combination of letters which will positively identify the child.

On the string or wire 2 I provide a series of spacing beads 3 and where the lettered beads 1 are used to spell out two names or the initials of a. person, a spacing bead 3 will be located between the names or the initials.

The ends of the wire 2 are knotted or twisted, as shown at 4, and are firmly and permanently connected by means of a seal 5 which is preferably of lead or soft metal so as to render it impossible of accidental loss or disconnection.

In maternity hospitals it is sometimes difiicult to identify babies and it is always more or less a source of worry to mothers to be sure that they have their own child. Vith my improved identification device, the possibility of error in identification is rendered absolutely impossible. When the child is born, the identification device is placed around the arm or neck of the child and sealed as above indicated, and remains on the child until the mother takes the baby away with her fromthe hospital and becomes a souvenir or heirloom.

By the provision of the lettered beads 1 any name or initials can be positioned on the cord or wire 2 and this is, of course, done in readiness and prepared before the birth of a child so that it is ready for instant use and the mother can have any name on the identification device that she desires.

It is, of course, to be understood that the beads are all perforated, as indicated at 6, for the reception of the wire or cord 2 and they may be variously shaped and variously made so as to permit their assemblage and permanent connection, and the device, when complete, will constitute a necklace, or a bracelet, and absolutely prevent possibilit of a mix-up of the children in the hospita It is, of course, to be understood that the letters or characters may be on both sides of the beads so that they will appear regardless of how the beads are turned.

Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from the invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. As a new article of manufacture, an identification device for infants comprising a flexible member, a series of perforated beads on the flexible member, .said beads having characters thereon, spacing beads on the flexible member maintaining the character beads in proper relation to each other, and a seal confining the ends of the flexible member. I

2. As a new article of manufacture, an identification device, for infants of the char acter described, comprising a string, spacing beads on the string, letter-containing beads on the string arranged to spell a name, the ends of the string secured together, and'a seal connecting the ends of the string.

3.
