The usual brake lining is securely riveted midway oi its length to the sectional ineinber 2() as it hes been found necessary only to secure to the respective sections l() the entreine ends et the linin. Hence, in proneeding` ivith 'the inserting' ot the hand through the narrow openingF :is above the' section l0 before having' the lug attached thereto is then attached to the end ot the bend section 2O hy *having the hook 4 thereon passed through the squaro`opening 5 and completing the union by inserting the screw 6. Thereupon the second section is added in like' manner, the bend being properly shifted longitudinally upon the drum successively to expose the unconnected portions in the order required as indicated.

After the sections l() and 2O have been articulated the lugs 2 and 3 are thereupon attached one after the other in practically the same manner as the sections l() were put on the main baud section, and then the re-f tivo minor sections dctachably connected to ends oi' the major section and forming therewith substantially continuous inner hearingr surface, operating` lugs detachebly chrried by the man); section, and detachable ineens for securing' the tree ends of? the liningr to the tree ends ot the minor sections.
