WIRE-STRETCHER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 8, 1921.
Application filed May 18, 1920. Serial No. 382,385.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMANN Gu'rsonn, a citizen of Germany, residing at New Ulysses, in the county of Grant and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in ire-Stretchers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to wire stretchers and the principal object of the invention is to provide a device for stretching long strands of wire, either barbed or plain.
Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby the device can be used for splicing two strands of wire together and for stretching a strand to a post.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view showing the invention being used to stretch a wire to a post.
Fig. 2 is a view showing the device being used for splicing two strands of wire together.
Fig. 3 is a detail view of the hand lever and its attached parts.
Fig. 4 is a detail view of the post engaging member.
In the drawings 1 indicates a hand lever which is provided with a hole 2 adjacent its end for receiving the short hook member 3 and with a'hole 4 for receiving the long hookmember 5. As shown the hooked end of the long member is arranged to extend in the longitudinal plane of the lever while the hook on the short member extends at right angles to saidplane. The lever is also provided with a hole 6 midway the distance between the two holes 2 and 4 to receive a link '1' which engages the wire holder 8. This holder is formed of'a plate having one end forked and bent over, as at 9, the ends of the fork being connected with the plate by the rods 10. The pin 11 is connected to one of these rods by the chain 12. said pinbeing adapted to hold the wire in the hole.
The post engaging member consists of a yoke 13 which is secured to a holder 14 which is formed similar to the holder before described. An eye 15 is formed at one end of the yoke and a book 16 is formed at the other end. The eye receives the end link of a chain 17 and one of the other links is adapted to engage the hook 16 to connect the device with the fence post. A link 18 engages the end of the holder 14: and the other end of this link is connected to a chain 19.
IVhen the device is to be used for stretching the wire so that it may be attached to a post, as shown in Fig. 1, the yoke 13 is connected with the post by means of its chain 17 and the wire is placed between the forks of the holder 8 and held therein by the pin 11. The hooks 3'and 5 are then placed in engagement with a pair of the links of the chain 19 and the hand lever rocked back and for splicing the wire, as shown in Fig. 2, the
holder on the handle is connected with one part of the wire while the holder on the yoke is connected with the other part and then the handle is manipulated to bring the two portions together as will be understood.
The device may be used for stretching barbed wire or plain wire and it will stretch long strands of wire so that it is not necessary to stretch from post to post.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A wire stretcher of the class described comprising a hand lever, a pair of hooked I
