To all whom it may com-em Be it known that I, RALPH L. PROESCH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beaver Dam, in the county of Dodge and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Spark-Intensifiers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my present invention is to provide a spark intensifier that is at once simple and durable in construction and effective in operation. 1
To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, hereby made a part hereof:
Figure 1 is a plan view of my novel spark intensifier; the same being shown in proper relation to the main electrode of a spark plug.
Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken in the plane indicated by the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the body of the intensifier.

Among other elements my novel intensifier comprises a body 1, apertured at points adjacent to its opposite ends, as indicated by 2 and 3. The said body 1 may be of any material compatible with the purpose of my invention, without involving departure from the scopeof same as claimed, though I prefor to form it of black-wood fiber or other fiber, because of the lightness, inexpensiveness and'insulating capacity of such material. Extending through the aperture 2 of the body 1, is a headed screw 4, and mounted on said screw 4: at the opposite side of the body 1, with reference to the screw head, is a nut 5 adapted for the electrical connection of a-wire 6 that is designed to lead from the source of electrical energy. Straddling the nut 5 and soldered or otherwise connected thereto is a metallic loop 7, the arms of which are arranged in spaced and approximately parallel relation and are carried to points adjacent to the a erture 3 through which the main electro e 8 of a spark plug extends, after the manner shown ,m" Fig. 1. The end portions gf sizd arms are, however, bare, as indicated In the practical use of my novel intensifier, it will be readily understood that the current from the source of energy will pass to the nut 5, and from said nut will pass through, the arms of the loop 7 and will ump across the gap between the terminals of sand arms and the main electrode 8, with the result that the spark formed between the said main electrode and the ground electrode of a ipark plug will be materially intensified. rom this it follows' that my improvement will render it easy to start an internal combustion engine in cold weather, and will assure ignition even when spark plugs are dirty or covered with oil. It will also be understood that the improved intensifier is calculated to prolong the usefulness of the spark plug with which it is associated.
I prefer to designate my improvement as a spark intensifier and adjuster, inasmuch as by turning the nut 5 to a slight extent, the distances between the terminals of the arms of the loop and the electrode-receiving aperture 3 may be varied as conditions re uire.

1. A spark intensifier comprising a body having apertures adjacent to its ends, a headed screw extending through one of said apertures, a nut threaded on the screw at the opposite side of the body with reference to the screw head, and a metallic loop straddling and secured to and movable with the nut and having the terminals of its arms arranged adjacent to though spaced from the other aperture and also having the inner portions of its arms coated with insulating material.
