This invention relates to electric furnaces of the Heroult type rocking or swin which are mounted for g movement to pour the charge-andmore particularly to means for disconnecting the current conductor leading from the transformer to the furnace when the furnace is tilted. a
It has heretofore been the practice to con- -nect swinging or rocking furnaces with the transformer by means of a flexible cable conductor and the loop of this cable is sometimes necessarily required to be very long Whlch causes an exceedingly high-loss of voltage from resistance and reactance, and also; induction causesadjacent'metallic parts of the apparatus to be unduly heated by inducedcurrents, materially reducing the amount ofpower reaching the furnace from a given transformer capacity. p
The objects of the present inventlon are to provide means for disconnecting the current conductors leadingLl from the -trans formers to the electric rnace; to provide a flexlble. link between the transformer and furnace electrodes comprising cable conductorsand. a series of interengaglng lamilna'ted plates and to provide positive means for normally clamping the laminated plates together. The transformer 26 is provided with a frame 27 extending toward the furnace and carrying the transformer bus-bars 28, said bus-bars comprising a plurality of laminated plates 29, the outer plates being provided with upwardly and outwardly flared trough like flanges 30 arranged to guide the conductor plates 24 into position when a connection is made between the cable conductor plates 24 and the bus-bar plates.

A screw threaded shaft 35 is pivotally connected at 36 to the lower extremity of one of the levers 31 and engages the nut 37, carried upon the lower extremity of the other lever 31', a handwheel 38 being fixed upon said screw threaded shaft for operating said levers.

It will be understood that the transformer will be provided upon the high tension side with the usual circuit breaker 40 for breaking and closing the circuit, and that the disconnecting means between the cable conductors and transformer bus-bars are not usually employed for breaking and closing the circuit.
