APPLICATION FILED SEPTA, 1911.

LOUIS L. KROUIA, OF BERWYN, ILLINOIS;
ELECTRIC-CIRCUIT TESTER.
I Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 8, 1921.
Application filed September 4, 1917. Serial No. 189,605.
To all whom it may-concern. v
Be it known that I, LOUIS L. KnoUrA, a
citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Berwyn, county of Cook, and
State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric-Circuit Testers, of which the following is a specification. I v
My invention relates to improvements in electric circuit testers, and has for its object the production of a device of this character, through 'the medium of which a plurality of circuits may be separately and ex- 7 peditiously tested for the detection of breaks with the or poor connections interferin the c0nproper flow of current throng ductors.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of: parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1 is a partially diagrammatic plan view of a circuit box, in connection with the circuit wires of which is shown a tester embodying the invention,
Fig. 2, a central section through the tester, and
Fig. 3, a fragmental side elevation of the tester.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawings is shown in connection with conventional circuit box 4, the pairs of branch circuit terminals'being illustrated at 5and 5'. The conductor wires cooperating with said terminals 5 and 5' are illustrated at 6 and 6', respectively.
In the connection of thetester forming the subject matter of this application with the conductorwires 6 and 6','each pair of conductor wires 6 and 6' has bridge wires 7 extendedtherefrom, the wires 7 co'operating with each pair of circuit wires 6 and 6 being connected with spaced contacts 8 and 8', mounted in the body or supporting element 9 of the tester. The latter is adapted to be secured to any suitable support,-
such as a wall or the like, in the vicinity of the circuit box or other instrument in connection with which the same is employed. The contacts 8 and 8' are spaced apart and insulated from each other so that each bridg-g ing circuit will be broken at the terminals or contacts 8 and 8 therein. The body 9' 7 suitable handle 16 to facilitate manual rotary adjustment of the same. The pairs of contacts-8 and 8' are arranged in circular formation about the axis 15 andare so spaced, that in the rotary adj ustment'of arm 14, the brushes 13 and 13' will successivelyengage with said pairs of contacts. The arrangement is such, as will be seen, that when said brushes 13 and 13' are brought into engagement with any pair of'con'tacts 8 and 8, an electrical connection will be established between said contactsthrough the lamp 11.
Thus it will be seen that any pair of the circuit wires 6 and 6 may be bridged through the'lamp 11 by simplyadjusting the arm 14 into engagement with the corresponding contacts 8 and 8. All of said circuits wires being connected with contacts provided upon the tester body, it will'be seen that said circuits may be readily and expeditiously tested through simply adjusting the arm 14 into successive registration with the pairs of contacts. In case ofa break in any of said cir cuits the lamp will notlight, or in case of a bad connection in any of said circuits, the lamp will glow very dimly or flicker. Thus it will be seen thateach circuit may be test ed. to detect any trouble.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying 'my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without depart ing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore donot' wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: V
A testing device for external circuits comprising an electric switch consisting of a support, an arm rotatably mounted on said a ble conductors extending therefrom to said support, a pair of spaced contacts on said si 'nal, substantially as described. arm, a plurality of contacts on said support, 11 testimony whereof I have signed my said contacts being arranged in pairs, the name to this specification in the presence of 5 pairs of contacts being arranged in circular two subscribing Witnesses.
formation in'the path of the contacts on LOUIS L KROUPA- the arm, and those of each pair in radial relation, a signal on said support, conductors Witnesses: i extending from the contacts on said arm to ARTHUR A. OLs'oN,
10 adjacent the support of the arm, and fiexi- JosHUA R. H. Poa'rs.
