Pin 10 contains the longitudinal slot 80 I accomplish the objects of my invention 11 in which the Wrist pin 9 plays, and on by the devices and means described in the its rotation oscillates the head 2 thereby following specification. The invention is oscillating the blade 4 in a circular path I clearly defined and pointed out in 'the causing the same to out very rapidly and claims. with substantially no resistance. 85

I, however, have In the drawings, the sectional views are shown a spool 0 construction which 1s pretaken looking in the direction of the little ferred by me for the uses indicated and Iv arrows at the ends ,of the section lines, and desire toclaim it specifically andI also demay be used, and it would be possible. to 105.
sire to claim the invention broadly as indicated and pointed out in the appended A claims.
Having thus described my inventio n, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: a
1. In a pitting knife, the combination of a suitable handle with a flange thereon, an
oscillating knife head on a pivot transverse longitudinal slot with whicligthe said; wrist pin cooperates, and disposed between said fingers and retained thereby, a serrated blade beveled on its inner side constitut ng flan arc of a circle, the center [of which is in .the said pivot pin, andmeansfor securing the said blade detachably to the said head, coacting for the purpose specified.
2. In a pitting knife, the combination with a suitable handle, of "an. oscillating knife head suitably pivoted thereon, a driving'shaft disposed in bearings in said handle, connections therefrom to oscillate the said head, a blade forming an arc of a circle carried by said head, the center of which circle ,is the center of oscillation of said head, coacting asspecified.
3. In a pitting knife, the combination of a suitable handle, a serrated blade carried by said handle, the cutting 'edgeof which is in the form of an arc of a circle and beveled on its inner ,side, and means connected to oscillate or vibrate the said blade,
.a suitable handle with a flange thereon, an 1 as specified.
4. In a pitting knife, the combination of a suitable handle, a blade carried by said handle, the cutting edge of which is'in the form of an arc of a circle and beveled on its inner side, and means connected to oscillate or vibrate the said blade, as specified.
5. In a pitting knife, the combination of a suitable handle, a serrated blade carried by said handle, the cutting edge of which is in the form of an arcof a circle, and means connected to oscillate or vibrate the said blade, as specified. -6. A pitting knife. comprising a thinblade bent in'substantially anarcof a circle, a
handle pivotally secured thereto at the center of said arc, and means for oscillating said blade'about the said center, the edges of said blade being unobstructed.
7. In a pitting knife, the combination of thereto, a pair of fingers on said handle for a suitable handle, a. curved blade, the cutting edgeiof which is in the curved plane of theblade, carried by said handle,-and means -connected' to oscillate or vibrate the said pin on said head, a pin in said knife headparallel toits said axis of oscillation in a partial journal bearing containing a longitudinal slot with which the said wrist pin 00- operates, and'disposed between said fingers and retained thereby, and ablade beveled on. its inner side constituting an arc of a circle,
the center of which is in the said pivot pin, coacting for the purpose specified.
, 9. In a pitting knife, the combination of a suitable handle with a flange thereon, an
oscillating knife head on a pivot transverse thereto, a pair of fingers on' said handle for supporting said pivot, a driving shaft disposed in bearings in said handle with a head at its outer .end between said fingers, a wrist pin on said head, a pin in said knife head parallel to its saidaxis of oscillation in a partial journal bearing containing a longitudinal slot with which the said wrist pin cooperates, and disposed between said fingers and retainedthereby; and a serrated blade constituting an arc of a circle, the center of which is in'the said pivot pin, coacting for the purpose specified.
10. In a pitting knife, the combination 0 oscillating knife head on a pivot transverse thereto, a driving shaft disposed in be ai ings in said handle with a head at its outer end between said fingers, a wrist pinon saidpivot pin, coacting for the purpose specified.
In-witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the pre sence' of'two witnesses.
SAMUEL J DUNKLEY. [L. s.] Witnesses I MARGARET L. GLAseow', MARTHA J. GREGORY.
