I the provision of a machine of universal character adapted to support all typesand kinds of internal combustion engines during the operation of burning-in the bearings and also to support the engine after it has been finally assembled while running-in to limber the bearings and detect any oil leakage at the joints of the casing.
Further objects and advantages of my invention" reside in the various combinations hereinbefore described and claimed as will be better understood by reference to the following specification when read in connection with the accompanying drawing illustrating the preferred embodiment thereof, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention with an engine in position for burning in the bearings;

frame or bed having supports 6 and 7 for the bearings 8 in which an arbor 9' is rotatably mounted. A multiple speed pulley 10 is supported on the arbor 9 and is adapted to be connected thereto bymeans of a'clutch 11 of any suitable Or well known form and controllable by'a clutch lever 12. The multiple speed pulley 10 permits rotation of the arbor 9 selectively at different speeds, it being necessary to rotate the arbor at a speed higher during the running-in operation than during the burning-in operation.
The center line of the arbor 9 is preferably spaced from the bed sufliciently to'permit connection with the shaft 13'of the engine 14 when the latter is reversed and resting on its head as indicated in Fig. 5 to permit closer inspection of the bearings during the 7 burning-in operation. This of course necessitates designing a machine particularly for vide a separable block 15 adapted to receive and support the engine 14 in upright position with the shaft 13 alinement with the arbor 9. The block 15 is held on the bed 5 by a bolt 16 and is provided with laterally I projecting lugs 17 to receive bolts 18 thread,- ed attheir upper ends'and provided with clamping heads 19 which hold av bar 20 in.

After the burning-1n operation the engine is completelyassembled, the lower half of the crankcase and speed changing mechanism being secured to the cylinder block.- The engine isthen replaced in the machine for the running-in operation to 'limber-the bearings and to discover any oil leakage. The 1 machine is provided with a threepoint support for the engine during the running-in operation comprising 'arigid arm 21 projecting from the end of the bed 5 opposite the arbor 9 and an adjustable support 22 having two arms 23, The support 22 is mounted in is adjusted vertically with respect to said bed, screws in said slot connecting said support and bed wherebythe former is locked in transversely adjusted, position relatively to the latter, a rigid arm at one end of said bed and spaced from said support and a rotatable arbor at the other-end of said bed. In a machine of the character described the combination ofa bed, a rigid armat one end of said bed, two arms spaced from said rigid arm and from each other and transversely and. vertically adjustable relatively to said bed, clamping means on the upper ends of said arms and a rotatable arbor at the end of said bed remote from said rigid arm. 7.
8. In a machine of the character described, the combination of a bed, two spaced arms supported on said bed in transversely and vertically adjustable relation thereto, a rigid arm on said bed spaced from i the first mentioned arms and a rotatable arbor on said bed opposite said rigid arm.
9. In a machine of the character described, the combination of a relatively fixed bed, a rotatable arbor supported above said bed at one end thereof, a block mounted on said bed to support an internal combustion engine with its shaft in alinement withv said arbor,-and means engaging the block at its bottom and the bed for securing the block on said bed.

In a machine of the character described, the combination of a relatively fixed bed, a rotatable arbor supported above said bed, a block mounted on said bed to support an internal combustion engine with its shaft in alinement with said arbor, and means at the top of the block for securing the engine thereto. 7

In a machine of the character described. the combination of a bed, a rotatable arbor spaced from said bed at one end thereof, three spaced arms to support a complete internal combustion engine with its shaft in alinement with said arbor anda block adapted to rest on said bed and to support a portion of said engine with the shaft in alinement with said arbor, said block being removable to permit mounting of the engine on said arms.
12. In a machine of the character described, the combination ofa bed,a-rotatablearbor spaced from. saidbedat one cut thereof, a removable block on said bed to support an internal combustion engine with its shaft in alinement with said arbor, means engaging the bed for securing the block thereon, lugs. on the side "of said block, a crossbar and bolts engaging said lugs and cross bar for holding the engine on the I block.
14. In a machine of the character described, the combination of a bed, a'rotatable arbor spaced from said bed at one end thereof, a rigid arm at the other' end of. the bed providing an end support disposed opposite the arbor, and a transverse support mounted ;on the bed and having upwardly extending arms providing supports intermediate the arbor and the end support, said end and intermediate supports providing a three-point support for an internal ,combus:
tion engine with its shaft in juxtaposition to said arbor. V
15. Ina machine of the character described, the combination of a bed, a rotatable arbor spaced above said bed at one end thereof, a rigid arm mounted on the bed at the other end thereof to provide an end support disposed opposite the arbor, a pair of arms mounted on the bed and projecting upward at the sides thereof between the arbor and the end support, said end support and arms providing a three-pointsupport for an internal combustion engine with its shaft in juxtaposition to said arbor, and pivoted means on the end support and arms for securing the engine in place thereon.
16. In a machine of the character described the combination of' a bed, a rigid."

17. In a machine of the character described the combination of a fixed bed, a rotatable arbor-supported above said bed at one end thereof, a block detachably mounted on said bed to support an internal combustion engine having the lower portion of. its
crank case removed with its shaft in alinement with said arbor, said block being provided with portions at opposite sides thereof for receiving the flanges on the upper por-i tion of the engine crank case thereon and having a recess between said portions to receive the portions of said engine below said flanges therein and means on said block for clamp ng said engine in position thereon 18. In a machine of the character described the combination of a fixed bed, a rotatable arbor supported above said bed at one end thereof, a hollow block detachably mounted on said bed to support an internal combustion engine having thelower portion of its crank case'removed with its shaft in alinement with said arbor, said block having a base and upwardly extending side walls adapted to receive the flanges on the upper portion of the engine crank case thereon, and providing a space therebetween to receive the portions of said engine below said flanges therein, and means on said block for clamping said engine in position thereon.
