Be it known that I, CARL OSCAR ANDER- soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Sangamon and State of lllinois,have invented .certain new and useful Improvements in Lubricating-Bearings, of which the following is a specification.

The cavity 25 provides an oil pocket or reservoir which is fed by a plurality of inclined openings orpassages 26 extending from the juncture point of the flange 23 with the sleeve 19 into said cavity 25, said passages 26 being also disposed in radial'relation to the bore .20, as clearl illustrated in Fig. 4. When, therefore,`o1l is deposited on the receiving flange 28 it enters the passages 26, and by reason of the inclination of said passages the oil will gravitate into the cavity or pocket 25. The exterior of the rib 24 is grooved to provide a bead 27, and mounted `on said rib 24 is arclosure cap 28 having a central perforation or opening 29 fo-rthe reception of the worm spindle 15 when the bearing is assembled thereon. .Consequently with the o-il thus obstructed in its rotary flow it is directed against the spindle and this pressure causes the oil to rise along the spindle within the bore 2O and to flow upwardly through the sleeve 19 to the upper end thereof. To assist in this flow the bore 20 may be provided with a.
spiral groove 31, but this is not essential7 and may be dispensed with if desired. AS the oil is discharged at the upper end of the sleeve 19 it is received by the cup-shaped flange 21 and when a sufficient quantity has been gathered by said flange it will liow downwardly thro-ugh the discharge opening 22 and be received bythe cavity 14.
To preclude any oil that may accumulate in the cup-shaped flange 21 being thrown outwardly therefrom by the rotation of the spindlel 15 a perforated cover *31a may be placed over said flange, said cover surrounding the spindle 15, as illustrated in Fig 1. This will confine the'oil to the flange 21 and its only point of exit will be through `the discharge opening 22. With the parts assembled as illustrated, in Fig. 1, Sullicient quantity of oilis placed within the cavity 14 of the frame v10 so that its upper level will be at approximately the point indicated by the dotted line in Fig. 1. The surface of the oil is therefore slightly above the lower edge of the worm wheel 12, .As the wheel 12 is rotated the oil is gathered thereby, carried to the upper portion of the cavity 14 and splashed by `the wheel onto the bearing 19.
