IMPROVEMENT IN BUTTONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 136,882, dated March 18, 1873.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT E. THURBER, ofthe city and county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a'new and useful Improvement in Buttons; and do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawing, of which- Figure 1 denotes on an enlarged scale an edge view, and Fig. 2 a transverse section, of a button provided with my invention. Fig. 3 is an edge view of the button. Fig. 4 is a sec tion of the collet.
In such drawing, the body A of the button is shown as provided with a pointed shank, B, having a short male screw, a, cut therebn. Between the said screw and the body of the button the shank is reduced in diameter at least double the depth of the thread of the inserted through the said article, and the col let being screwed upon such shank toward the body A until the collet may run off the screw. The collet is composed of a concavo-convex nut, b, and a plain disk or cap, 0, arran ged and fixed together at their edges, as shown-the object of the cap 0 being to protect a person from the point of the shank.
It has been found by experience that with the collet so made, and with thebutton-shank provided with the screw and reduced in diameter between the screw and body, as set forth, the collet will remain on, or is not liable to work off, the shank while the button may be in use.
I claim- The chambered screw-nut or collet, as described, and the button-body, provided with.
the screw and reduced shank to operate with such collet, all being substantially as specified.
