Vwide a light-weight valve grinder, ex
tremely simple in l constructiom equipped. with adjustments for regulating theoscillation of the valve to be ground, and a bit adapted to engage kvalves of different forms. In this device, simple adjustment will limit or extend the lateral movement of the valve for grinding. The bit is provided with a plurality of faces, and by the turn of a winged nut, the operator can present a valve-engaging portion for almost any kind of valve.
I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is afront elevation of the grindin tool.
ig. 2 is a side elevation of said tool, with a section partly cut away showing a reduced end of the body, a ball bearing,
and a tubular member extending over saidV at its the body of the tool, carrying at one end the. handle 2.' ,The other end portion, as shown at 3, is reduced in diameter and squared 0H at its eXtreme end, adapting it to operate on a ball bearing. Rotatably mountedon the body is the gear wheel 4C, and meshed therewith and similarly mounted isthe smaller gear wheel 5, carrying the crank pin 6. 7 illustrates a connecting rod, provided at one end with a longitudinal slot 8, operating on said pin 6, the other end being rounded in form, as shown at 9. This rod is shown pivoted to the hub 10, at 11. Said rod is provided with the additional openings 12 and 13, adapted to Referring to the drawings, 1 designates give pivotal connection thereat. The body of the tool has three complementary openings ld, 15 and 16, which permit the hub 10 -whichis bolted to the bodyeto be lmoved longitudinally into `three different positions. Said openings in the rod accommodate it to the adjustment of the hub,
`thereby regulating' the throw of the rod and `giving it adjustment for three different movements. 17, illustrates a spring riveted 4tothe body, the function of whichv is to re- ',tain therm'ember 18 onV the body, and to Ipermit its removal therefrom.
Said mem ber is ltubular in its upperporti'on, andr is adapted to revolve around the circumferentially reduced end of the body 3. It is provided with a circumferential groove 19 on its outer surface into Vwhich the free end of the spring 17 fits, as retaining means. To remove the tubular member from the body the spring is simply lifted out of engagement with the groove. FiXedly attached to the member 18 is a laterally extending slotted crank arm 20, a detached embodiment of which is shown in Fig. 4. The slot is designated as 21, the rounded end of the rod 7 having a driving connection therein. At the lower end of the tubular portion of member 18, a seat 21 for a ball bearing 22 is provided. Extending from this seat to the free end of said member is a centrally located longitudinal slot 23 adapted to carry the bit shown in Fig. 3, and Vdesignated as 24. Said bit is held in the tool and adjustable to various positions through the instrumentality of the bolt and winged nut 25, operating through the opening 26 in the bit, and bores through the body.A rlhe crank and handle for actuating the-mechanism-are designated by figures 27 and 28 respectively. V
By the mechanism, as illustrated, it is apparent that the rotation of the gears, cooperatingr with the rod 7 and its connections will Vimpart an oscillating movement to the member 18 land the valve to be groundconnected with the bit. erator can extend or limit the radius of action of the valve to be ground by the simplemeans heretofore described, by raising or lowering the block 15, and pivotally connecting the rod 7 through the proper The opopenings. A turn of the Winged nut 25 Y' will permit the bit to revolve on its bolt,
and ienable .the operator to present the proper Contact points i'or engaging the valve.-V Y Y Y I claimc Y il v 1.V A device of the class described, comprising in combination, a body surmountedby a handle, the end Vof the body having a circumferential reduced portion, carrying a revoluble tubular. member provided with a ball 'bearing and a seat therefor, adapting said member to revolve around .said
