BURGLAR-ALARIVI.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that 1, KUwAKIoHi FUJITA, a subject of the Emperor of Japan, residing at Hazleton, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful improvements in Burglar- Alarms, of which the following is a specification. i
This invention relates to burglar alarms and more particularly to the class of devices disclosed in applications filed by me. One application was filed April 24, 1918, and bearing Serial No. 230,539 and the other application was filed November 19, 1918, bearing Serial No. 261,191.
The chief object of this invention is to improve and simplify devices of this chai'- acter and to employ electro-magnetic means in connection with the cartridge firing mechanism.4
With the above and' other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device being incased as shown.
Fig. 2- is a plan view, the casing having been removed.
Fig. 3 is a plan view showing the positions the various parts assume when the Acartridges are being discharged. f
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4--4 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3.
The device consists of a base 10 having bearings 11 in which is mounted a shaft 12. Arranged for swinging movement on the shaft 12 are housings 13 each of which having arranged therein a metal barrel 14. A metal plate 15 is arranged-adjacent one end of each barrel and is provided with a central opening to admit a cartridge 16, the flange 17 of the shell seating itself against the face of the plate 15. A plate 18 is arranged for sliding movement adjacent the plate 15 and acts in the nature 0f a breech device. Each plate 18 is provided with a small hole 19 for a purpose to appear. Arranged relatively to the housings 13 and secured to the base 10 is a block 2O having arranged on the upper face thereof, a lever 21, the lever being pivotally mounted as at 22 and is provided with firing pins 23. This lever, it will be seen may be moved Specification of Letters Patent. Patgniged Feb 15, 1921.
Application filed October 10, 1919.
Serial No. 329,683.
kdevice 25 which is connected at one end as at 26. Each housing is provided with an arm 27 which engages the device 25 as at 28. The free end of the device 25 is provided with a loop 29. A releasing member 30 is swingingly mounted as at 31 and in the position of the device 25 shown in Fig. 2, said member overlies the bight of the loop 29. The
free end of the member 30 is engaged by 'the nose 32 of a dog 33.
The discharge of the cartridges is caused .by the devices and in a manner presently described. An electro magnet 34 is arranged oii the base 10 and is in such position that when the device 25 is set, the magnet 34 will be disposed within the loop 29. The magnet. 34 is arranged on a block 35 which is provided with plates 36 having bearings which receive pins on a rocking beam 37. rlfhe beam 37 has one end 38 thereof disposed adjacent the core 39 of the magnet and the opposite end 40 of said beam is provided with a brass piece 41 and as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawing, the piece 41 engages the dog 33. A small spring 42 serves to hold the piece 41 in engagement with the dog 33. The coil of the electro-magnet 34 is in circuit with a battery 43 and a circuit closer 44. The circuit closer 44 may be arranged so as to be actuated by a door or a window. Energization of the core 39 attracts the end 38 of the beam 37 which causes the piece 41 to 'clear the end of the dog 33. The dog being made of resilient material is then attracted by the opposite end of the core 39 freeing the member 30 and the holding device 25 and thus permitting the housings 13 having the cartridge barrels 14 therein, to swing over the lever 21 for the iiring of the cartridges.
These devices may be arranged in dwellings or out-houses, such as garages and henroosts. The circuit closer of the device may be disposed in operative relation with a door or other closure through which entrance V may be obtained so that upon the opening of such closure the 4device will immediately be .brought into action to frighten or scare away an intruder. y
What is claimed as new is :m
`l. A burglar alarm, includingr in combinationA` a plurality of movablebarrels each adapted to receive acartridge; cartridge Vfiring means including a pivoted lever having liring pins thereon; means for holding fthe barrels in inactive positions and electromagnetic means operable tolperinit the car- -arranged in correlation with each housing adjacent one end of its barrel ;v cartridge fir ing means including apivoted lever having firing. pins thereon; means for holding the barrels in inactive positions and electromagnetic means operable to permit the fir- ,i ing pins to function vfor the discharge of the cartridges. i
3. A burglar alarm, including in combination, a plurality of movable barrels each adapted to receive acartridge to be fired,
1,368,791. ,t e n cartridge firing means, means including a releasing member or holding the barrels in inactive positions, and electro-magnetic means comprising a coil having a core, a-
rocking beam, a non-magnetic piece secured to one end of said beam, a resilient-magne lreleasing member for holding the barrels in inactive positions, and electro-magnetic means comprising a coil having a core, a magnetizable rocking beam, a non-magnetic piece Vadapted torbe interposed between the core and one end of said dog to prevent attraction of said dog by the core, one end of said rocking beam disposed to be attracted by the core when the same is energized to permit the dog to be attracted by said core when energized, for the purpose specified. In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
