SILO-REINFOR QING-BOD ANCHOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 15, 1921.
Original application filed May 22; 1917, Serial No. 170,297. Divided and this application filed September 6, 1918. SeriaLNo. 252,811.
To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, tinonon P. Prunes, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in bilo-Reinforcing-Rod Anchors, (division of my application Serial Number 170,297,) of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to silo reinforcing rod anchors and is a division of my application Serial Number 170,297 filed May 22,
I 1917. The present structure is designed for use in. connection with a door frame suitably mounted withinthe silo structure itself and cooperative with the circumferential reinforcing rods to give a suitable anchorage at the ends of the latter to avoid passage over or through the door openings.
Particularly in cement block silo construction, the thicknesses of the various mortar joints may vary and, in this latter construction, the circumferential reinforcing rods are usually embedded between two horizontal roadways of blocks. It is essen tial that suitable anchors be carried by the door frame for securing the ends of these rods but their exact location can not be predetermined because of the variations in thicknesses of mortar joints as outlined above and also due to the various distortions and shrinkages of the cement blocks themselves. For this reason, the main object of the present invention resides in a structure of anchor particularly adapted for the reception of the ends of these reinforcing rods and which may be so positioned and associated with the door frame that the various inequalities and distortions met with in actual practice may be handily overcome. To this end, the anchor is of a peculiar form so mounted upon the door frame as to permit of its proper adjustment and also constructed to accommodate lateral. adjustable connection of the min forcing rod ends.
The structure for accomplishing the foregoing is shown in the accompanying sheet of drawings which represents the preferred embodiment of my invention. In these drawings, similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout and,
of a cement b ook silo with the door frame Figure 1 re resents the partial face view in its applied position, a portion of the frame and block structure beingbrokcn away to clearly disclosethe anchorage for one end of a circumferential reinforcing rod, and j 1 Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view in perspective showing the anchor attached to the door frame and illustrating the reinforcing rod in broken lines.
In Fig. 1, the silo is shown as being built up of a plurality of blocks 1, the mortar joints being shown by single lilies desig nated 2. While the present invention is shown in conjunction with cementblocks, it is not particularly limited to such application but is equally applicable wherever the types of adjustments already described are essential providing the reinforcing rods may be adapted to that particular type of structure.
The door frame is designated in its entirety by the reference numeral 3 and its top and bottom and vertical edges are preferably in the form of channels as illustrated in Fig. 2 to embrace the silo structure surrounding the door opening. The door frame is closed by means of the door a, the latter being drawn into proper holding position and latched in such position by means of the latching structures designated generally by the reference numerals 5 and 6 all as described and claimed in my application above referred to.
Between the inner and outer legs 7 and 8 respectively of the vertical portions of the door frame there are located the desired number of anchors for the circumferential reinforcing rods 9, each of these anchors cons1sts preferably of an angularly shaped member whosevertical leg is designated 10 and whose horizontal leg is designated 11. The vertical leg is provided with a vertically disposed slot 12 and is attached to the door frame by means of the bolt and nut structure 18. A slot 12 in the vertical leg 10 of each member is made of a height to permit of the normal variations in the thicknesses of mortar joints by various workmen. It will be understood that should the thicknesses of these mortar joints vary, for inshould be and than could be accommodated unless suitable adjustments are provided.
For this reason, either the upper anchors may be properly adjusted or the door frame may be moved slightly vertically but permitting the lower anchors to remain in position and the entire structure then'drawn tight and in rigid holding relation. Each of these reinforcing rods havetheir ends turned down at right angles as is illustrated at 14 and these ends are adapted to fit in slots 15 in the horizontal legs 11 of the anchors; This permits "of the necessary lat-- association of circumferential reinforcing rods and the door frames. As stated, these clips merely form anchors for the ends of the reinforcing'rods to avoid passage over the door opening, the door frames themselves functioning as continuations of the. remforclng rods. The proper ad uStments such as may be caused by mortar joints of varying thicknesses and distortions to be found in the blocks from which the silos are made may be readily-accomplished. At the same time the door frame structure may beinitially equipped with these anchors and shipped in connection therewith.
What I claim is;
In a silo, a door frame, a reinforcing rod extending around the silo, angle members carried by the vertical sides of said frame between its inner and outer edges, one leg of each member lying fiat against that portion of the frame between its vertical sides and being provided with a vertical slot, and means for adjustably securing said members to said frameby said slots, the other leg of each member being'disposed crosswise between the sides of said frame and being provided with a slot extending crosswise between the frame sides for the reception of one of said rod ends.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
7 venonen r. PIERCE.
