Description

'M. R. BERGER. 'GUTTER HANGER CIRCLE. AYPPLICAUON FILED MAY 25, 1920.
Patented Feb. 15, 1921.
UNITED srarss PATENT ,.oFTFIcEN.
MATTHEW :RUSSELL BERGER, or PHILADELPHTA, rENNsYLvANiA.
GUTTER-HANGER CIRCLE.
To all whom it 'may concern.:
Be it known that I, MATTHEW RUSSELL BERGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Gutter-Hanger Circle, of which the following is a specification.
The leading object of the present invention may be said to be the providing of a gutter-hanger circle stamped from a single piece of sheet metal as wrought iron and so .formed that the gutter seat is disposed at an vhanger circle embodying features of the invention.
Fig. 2, is a top plan view thereof and Fig. 3, is a view in vertical section, taken upon the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
For the purpose of illustrating my invention I have shown in the accompanying drawings one form thereof which is at present preferred bv me, since the same has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of the instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
The gutter-hanger circle of the present invention is stamped from a single piece of sheet metal. It is commonly called a circle in the trade and is adapted for connection to a shank7 as is well understood in the art. The gutter-hanger circle comprises, as parts of an integral structure. a vertical web 10 provided at one end withI a gutter Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed 'May 25, 1920. Serial No. 384,155.
catch 11 and provided at its other end with heel 12Vwhich terminates in a second gutter catch 13. The upper edge of the web is flanged as at 14 to form a gutter seat. The flange 14 is disposed at inclination to the web 10. and the place of juncture of said web 1() and flange is generally curved, as at l5, to form a smooth surface in contradistinction to a sharp edge. The purpose' of the inclined and curved surfaces is to provide a water-shed. In gutter-hangers now upon the market the gutter-seat is disposed at right angles to the supporting web. With a gutter in position upon its seat, water tends to collect upon the seat, in contradistinction to draining olf with the result that corroding of the underside of the gutter takes place. According to the present invention water readily drains toward the web from beneath a gutter becauseof the pitch of the flange 14 and because of said curved surface 15. If the juncture of said flange and web comprised a sharp edge irregularities might be present which would tend to form spots in which water might collect. The heel of the hanger has stamped therefrom a vertical rib 16 apertured as at 17 in order that the hanger may be secured to a shank as is well understood in the art.
It will now be apparent that I have devised a novel and useful construction which embodies the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description and while I have in the present instance shown and de scribed the preferred embodiment thereof which has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of modification in various particulars without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
What I claim is 1. In a gutter-hanger circle, a vertically disposed web having formed integral therewith a flange forming a gutter-seat which flange is disposed at an inclination to said web for shedding water in a direction toward said web.
2. In a gutter circle, a vertically disposed web having formed integral therewith a iange forming a gutter-seat which flange is Web having formed integral therewith a disposed at an inclination to said Web for flange forming a gutter-seat which ange is shedding Water in a direction toward said disposed at an inclination to said web. 10 web, the junction of said Welo` and flange In testimony whereof I have hereunto 5 presenting a smooth, curved surface for the signed my name. Y
Vunobstructed drainage of Water. Y
3; In a gutter circle, a vertically disposed MATTI-DENKV RUSSELL .BERGERi
