T0 all 'whom t may concern Be it known that I, IVOJCIECH BnNozAL- siii, a citizen of Poland, residing at Eureka, in the county of Humboldt and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Laundry-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.

rI`his invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in laundry hangers and has for its primary object to provide a laundry hanger or clothes line suspending device adapted for mounting within the room of a house and especially the kitchen or laundry room.

A further object of the invention is to provide a. laundry hanger that is adjustable in the length thereof while 'the reel inclosing casingis adjustably mounted upon the wall of the room and completely houses the clothes line when the same is out of use. Y

With these general objectsin view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood7 the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated A in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the appended claims.

In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views,

Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawing there is illustrated a laundry hanger adapted for mounting in the kitchen room of a house, such room being illustrated as embodying a wall 1.

The laundry hanger includes the mounting of a reel and inclosing casing therefor upon brackets mounted on the wall 1 of the room, the mounting including a bracket embodying vertical legs 7 andlower horizontal legs 8, while a V-shaped clamping frame 9 has the free ends thereof pivotally mounted as at 10 adjacent the upper ends of the legs 7.

The casing inclosing the reel embodies end walls 1l and 12, a rear wall 13, top and bottom walls le: and 15 respectively, and a hinged forward door 16. The bottom wall 15 of the casingis mounted on the horizontal arms 8 of the 'brackets while the clampingv arms 9 overlie the top wall 14 for retaining the casing on the bracket. The connection between the clamping arms' 9 and the casing includes the provision of an upstanding tubular boss 17 surrounding an opening adjacent the rear end of the top let which registers with an opening provided in the forward end of the clamping arms 9 while the engaging faces of the tubular boss 17 and clamping arms at their apex are toothed as at 18 to prevent movement of the casing relativeto the clamping arms.

A .headed screw boltl 19 extends upwardly through the tubular boss on the cover 14 and the opening in the adjacent end of the clampingarms and receives the thumb nut 2O to lock the parts in adjusted assembled relations.

The reel within the drum 21 carrying end flanges 22 and fixed to the shaft 2B projecting through the casing wall 12 and. provided with a wrench hold 2&1 upon the yend thereof. A ratchet wheel 25 is secured to the outer face of the drum flange 22 adjacent the side wall l2 and is adapted to be engaged by the lever pawl 26 pivotally mounted as at 27 upon the inner face of the casing wall 12.

In order to shift the lever pawl 26 to an inoperative position out of engagement with the ratchet wheel 25, there is provided an arm 28 pivotally mounted as at 29 to the ratchet pawl intermediate the ends thereof and proj ecting upwardly through the slot 30 in the top wall 11i of the casing, the forward end of the slot being of reduced diameter as at 31 to engage the side lugs 32 upon the arm 28 Vand support the arm and ratchet lever in elevated positions.

The clothes line embodies a rope 33 ancliored at one end to the drum 21 and wound thereon as illustrated in Fig. 3, with the free end of the rope projecting through the horizontal slot 34: in the front wall 16 of the casing while the outer freeend of the rope carries an attaching ring. A crank handle applied to the lrey end 2e of the shaft 23 will wind the rope 33 upon'the drum 21 until the desired tautness is attained, during which time the ratchet lever casing embodies a llO 26 Will move over the wheel 25 and prevent a reverse rotation of the drum 21.

It is noted that the arm 28 may be ele-y vated in the slot 30 -to position the side lugs 32 of the arm over the reduced portion 31 of the slot, at which time the ratchet pawl 26 Will be held elevated out of engagement with the ratchet Wheel 25 thus to permit a free unvvinding movement of the rope from the drum `21.k `The connection between the clamping arms 9 and the upper wall 14 of the casing'Will permit an angular adjust ment of the reel inclosing casing so that a direct pull may Vbe obtained upon the drum'21.

While the form or' the invention herein shown and described is what is believed to be the preferred embodiment thereof, it is nevertheless to be understood that various forms, modifications and arrangements of the parts may be made WithoutV departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

A laundry hanger comprising in combination With a casing having a slot with a reduced end in one Wall thereof', and a rope drum Within the easing, a ratchet wheel carried by said drum, a paivl pivoted Within the casing for coperation with the ratchet Wheel, and an arm pivoted to said pavvl and extending through the casing slot and constructed for cooperation with the reduced end of the slot for holding the` pawvl free of engagement With the ratchet Wheel during unvvinding of the reel. A laundry hanger comprising in combination With a casing havinga Slot'ivith a reduced end in one Wall thereof', anda rope drum Within the casing7 a ratchet Wheel carried by said drum, a pmvlpivoted within the casing for cooperation with the ratchet Wheel, an arm pivoted to said pawl and extending through the casing-slot, and side Vlugs carried by said arm adapted for engagement with the Walls of the reduced end of the slot for holding the pawl ree of cir gagement with the ratchet Wheel during un- Winding of the reel.

A laundry hanger comprising in combination with a casing having a Slot With a reduced end in one Wall thereoi7 and a rope drum within the casing, a ratchet Wheel carried'by'said drum, a pawl pivoted within the casing for cooperation with the ratchet Wheel7 an arm pivoted to said paWl and extending through the casing slot, and side lugs carried by said arm adjacent the outer en d thereof andfre'ely movable through the Wideend of the slot adapted to engage the Walls of the reduced end of the slot tor holding the pawl free of engagement With the ratchet Wheel during unwlnding of the reel.
