MORRIS 'UNGER, JOSEEH W. ZABIRO, AND BEBNAIZL S. VEAZIE, OF PITTSBURGH, PENNEa'YLVANIA.
Application filed April 12,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that llLlonnrs UNenn, Josnrir lV. Zanno, and BERNARD S. Vnazrn, citizens of the United States, residing at l ittsburgh, in the county of rillegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful lm novements in Collapsible Seats, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to amusement devices, and more particularly to an ejector and collapsible seat.
lne of the main objects of the invention is to provide a seat of the character of simple construction and operation which, may be installed at small cost. A further object is to provide a seat having associated therewith a slide or chute, and simple and efficient means for extending the chute and simultaneously depositing a person from the seat on to the chute. Further objects will. appear from the detailed description.
in the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective side view, partly in section, of the seat member.
Fig. 2 is a perspective side view of the seat as applied.
3 is a front view of the doors and associated parts.
Fig. 4.- is a side view of the seat, as applied, with the slide extended.
The seat includes a suitable frame 1 which supports a downwardly and forwardly inclined back 2 the lower end of which tends closely adjacent to the seat member 3. lfhis seat member is formed of a plurality of bars il secured to the upper runs of chains which pass about alined sprocket wheels secured on shafts 7 rotatably mount-ed in frame 1, these shafts being disposed in a common plane and there being two sprockets secured on each shaft as will be readily understood. A covering 8 of carpet or other suitable material is secured over the outer faces of bars 4: to prevent a person upon the seat from being projected during operation of the device.
A. slide 9 is provided at the front of the seat. T his slide comprises an upper section 10 and a lower section 11 which are hingedly connected at their adjacent ends by a rod 12. Section 10 is pivoted at its upper end upon the forward shaft 6, and each side bar 13 of section 11 is provided in its forward portion with a longitudinally extencllng slot Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 8, 1921.
Serial No. 373,152.
1-1. These slots receive a bar 15 secured through the forward ends of two beams 16 whichsupport frame 1. A link 17 is provided at each side of the slide and is bivoted at its rearward end to a rod 17 which passes through the lower end of a liner 18 pivoted at 19 to frame 1; and at its forward end to rod 12.. This lever is atached at 20 to the lower runs of chains 5. Normally the lever is in the position illustrated in Fig. 1. ll hen a person is seated upon member 3, by throwing the lever into the position illustrated in Fig. l the chute 9 is extended and raised, and the seat member is moved forwardly so as to deposit the person upon the slide or chute, from which he may be dis charged onto an inclined series of rollers or any other suitable device.
A door frame 21 is secured to and supported by beams 16. This frame supports two rods 92, one at each side of the frame, to which are secured hinge leaves 23 which are secured to swinging doors .Zifitting within frame 21. Each rod is-provided at its lower end with a rectangularly disposed and inwardly directed crank arm 25 pivotally secured at its forward end to a link 241' the rearward end of which is pivoted on rod 17".
in practice the lever and associated parts will be concealed, the lever being preferably positioned behind a partition erected adjacent to the seat. -As will be understooc, an operator stands by the lever, and as soon as one or more persons are seated pon member 3 throws the lever into the position illustratel in Fig. l, this depositing; the persons upon slide 10, the slide being; aised and extended and the doors opened simultaneously with operation of the seat. A suitable chute, or other device, may be erected adjacent doors 2% for receiving persons discharged from the slide.
As will be understood, there may be changes made in details of construction and arrangement of parts of the invention without departing from the field and scope of the same, and we intend to include all such variations, as fall within the scope of the appended claims in this application in which a preferred form only of our invention is disclosed.
What we claim is 1. In a device of the character described, a substantially and permanently horizontal seat member of the endless belt type, a slide positioned adjacent to the front of said seat member and normally in lowered position, and means for causing forward movement of the seat member and simultaneously raising the slide into position to receive a per son discharged from the seat member.
2. In a device of the character described, a substantially and permanently horizontal seat member of the endless belt type, a foldable slide having its upper end positioned adjacent to the front of the seat member, and means for causing forward movement of the seat member and for simultaneously raising and extending said slide.
3. In a device of the character stated, a frame, a seat member supported by the frame for forward and rearward movement therein, a slide pivoted at its upper end to the frame adjacent to the front of the seat member, and means for causing forward movement of the seat member and for raising said slide so as to extend downwardly and forwardly from said member.
a. In a device of the character described, a frame, a seat member mounted in said frame for forward and rearward movement therein, a slide comprising two hingedly connected members, the inner one of said members being pivoted at its upper end to the frame adjacent to the front of said seat member, and means attached to the slide members at the hinge axis thereof and to the seat member for causing forward 1novement of said member and simultaneously raising and extending the slide.
5. In a device of the character described, a frame, two shafts rotatably mounted in the frame, sprocket wheels secured on said shafts, chains passed about the sprocket wheels, a seat member carried by the upper runs of the chains, a slide comprising two members hingedly connected at their adjacent ends, the inner one of said members being pivoted at its upper end upon the forward shaft, a lever pivoted intermediate its ends, links connected at their rearward ends to the lower end of the lever and pivoted at their forward ends to the slide members at the hinge axis thereof, and connections between the lever above its pivot and the lower runs F of said chains.
(3. In a device of the character L'lQSCllbQt, a frame, a seat member mounted in the frame for forward and rearward movement therein, a normally lowered slide, nortures.
