IMPFOVEMENT IN BUTTERBUCKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 136,713, dated March 1l, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
` clare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification.
- The invention consists In forming an airtight butter-bucket in three easily-detachable parts, so that it can be mspeedily subdivided and all portions thoroughly cleaned. It also consists in the means by which thethree parts are clamped together, and in the means by which the clamps are locked and unlocked.
In the drawing the figure represents a perspective view.
A represents va bucket body or cylinder, formed by lapping and riveting together the edges of a rectangular sheet of wood of suitable size. B B are two disks, small enough to lit snugly into each end of the cylinderA, and having the annular extensions or ilanges b b1, by which they are prevented from being forced inwardly. One serves as the bottom and the other` as the top ot' the bucket, while, with the body, they constitute a separable and easilycleaned bucket.. These parts may be clamped together in various ways without departing from the original idea or principle ot' my invention, whichA consists in making a bucket in three detachable parts. The particular means which I employ to effect the object of holding together the three parts consist in a pair of wires, C O. These are bent twice so as to form the right angles c c, and so that the part c" will be less than the diameter of the cylinder O. The ends are then passed through holes in annular ange b1, so as to bring the two wires into parallelism to each other, but on opposite sides of a parallel plane passed through the diameter of disks. The wires are then bent twice and fastened to the bottom of disk B, leaving the part c of wires k just high enough to pass easily over the top of cylinder A. These wires, being more or less elastic, can be easily pressed aside to allow the cylinder to be fitted on disk B. The but- Y ter is then packed into the cylinder, the wires again pressed aside, the top B fitted into place,
and the wires closed carefully over it.V This mode of clamping together the three parts of a bucket, so as to make it air-tight, makes them very readily detachable. The lock which I employ to retain the wires in place and preventthem from being slipped oifin handling consists in a wire handle, D, whose ends pass through staples d d made fast in holes b2 b2 of the top B. They are then bent twice, once in their own plane and again at an angle thereto. By this construction the ends d d are erect when the handle is laid down on one side, so that the wires O G cannot escape; but these ends are inserted into holes in the cover or top B when the handle is laid down upon the opposite side, allowing the removal of wires. When the handle is elevated and used in transporting the bucket the wires are held with equal security.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- Y Y l. A bucket composed of the detachable flanged disks B B and cylinder A, constructed to fit together as and for the purpose described.
2. The wires O O passing through and fastened to bottom B', and having parts cc movable over the top B, as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The handle D passing through staples d. d in top and having two bends, one at right angles to the other, so as to form the ends d d', in combinationwith the bucket, as and for the purpose specified.
