APPARATUS FOR POLISHING PHOTOGRAPHIC PASTEBOAIRD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 25, 1921.
Application filed May -11, 1920. Serial No. 380,705.
To all whom. it may concern Be it known that I, AsMo CATINI, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at Terni, Italy, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Apparatus for Polishing Photographic Pasteboard, of which the following is the specification.
The present invention relates to an arrangement for automatically polishing the photographic paste board in coil, for simplifying and making more economical the polishing process, obtained till now of laying a wet sheet upon a glass, said sheet detached when quite dry, presenting a. perfectly polished surface.
The arrangement projected by the applicant makes such operation easier, avoiding the expensive glasses, which are easy broken, and all other disadvantages proper to such systems.
For making the operation and disposition of the several parts which constitute the invention more evident, this latter is illustrated by the annexed drawing which represents diagrammatically an embodiment of the invention.
The arrangement is essentially constituted by a polished steel drum A, whose breadth is little larger than that of the paste board v to be polished; said drum being disposed in such a way as to be able to rotate on its own axis.
On said drum are ressing several rubber rollers B successive y disposed on its periphery and rotate owing to their adherence to the drum which rotates at a speed minimum. C shows the paste board band to be polished, the polishing being obtained by passing the ban through the water in a g ass box or basin D and introducing hereafter the band extremity between the first roller B and the steel drum.
The slow turning of the drum A slowly transfers the band around its eriphery and at its opposite extremity-w ere the band comes out-a fan blower E is disposed, which blows an intense warm air current gradually coolin by approaching to the exhaust outlet or preventing its heat to wet gelatin.
A high speed rotating brush F restores the drum quite brilliant, which is indispensable for obtaining a good polishing.
The slow speed of the drum, and the continuous uninterrupted arrangement of operation allows a considerable time for hand work besides lowering the loss owing to the frequent glass ruptures in the present polishing systems.
While I have shown what I deem to be the preferable form of my invention, I do not wish to be limited thereto as there might be many changes made in the arrangement of parts and details of construction without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What claim is:
1. A photographic paste board polishing apparatus comprising a drum mounted for rotation, revolubly mounted rollers arranged on the periphery of the drum, means to guide a strip of paste board between said drum and rollers, means to apply paste to said strip prior to its engagement by said.
drum and rollers, means to blow a current of Warm air against said strip during its passage between said drum and rollers and in a direction opposite the direction of movement of said drum and strip.
2. A photographic paste board polishing apparatus comprising a drum mounted for rotation, revolubly mounted rollers arranged on the periphery of the drum, means to guide a strip of paste board between said drum and rollers, means to apply paste to said strip prior to its engagement by said drum and rollers, means to blow a current of warm air against said strip during its passage between said drum and rollers and 1n a direction opposite to the direction of movement of said drum and strip, and means for polishing the periphery of the roller at a point between the ends of said strip.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto signed my name in thepresence of two subscribing witnesses.
