Be it known `that I, `WILLIAM MITCHELL, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stock-Watering Bowls, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specilcation.
The present invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in stock-watering devices and refers more particularly to that type in which the bowl 1s bodily removable from the supply pipe.
This invention has for one of its objects to provide a detachable connection between the bowl and itssupport and means yieldingly restraining the disengagement ofthe bowl from the support to thus prevent the accidental detachment thereof. Another object of this invention is to provide a stock-watering device having a supply controlling treadle with means for preventing the water, as being fed into the bowl, from spraying upon the animal.
A furtherfobject offthis invention is to provide a supply controlling treadle, the tension spring of which may be adjusted and which when in depressed o erating position is out of the way of the owl bottom and adjacent the rear` wall thereof.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinafter described and more particularly detined by the appcnded claims, it being understood that such changes in the precise embodiment of the herein disclosed `invention may be made as come within the scope of the claims.
In the accompanying drawin I have illustrated one complete examp e of the physical embodiment of my invention constructed according to the best mode I have so far devised for the practical application of the principles thereo and in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through the device embodying the invention- Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1;

The upper forward portion of the member 6 is in the form of a pipe 12 having a side opening 13 receivingr a reversible elbow 14` Secured to the supply pipe. The elbow may be secured to the member 6so as to accommodate a supply pipe leading from eitherabove the top or below the bottom of the bowl so that the bowl may be adapted for either system of water distribution.
The bowl 7 is provided with an inclined rear face portion 15 with a projection 16 depending therefrom and having a medial slot 17. said projection having a curved outer cam face 16 to slidably engage the curved inner part of the hook portion 10 when the lbowl is hooked on to the bracket, the slot 17 receiving the medial partition 11 to prevent lateral movement of the bowl upon the bracket when said parts are hooked together. The bowl is also provided with a notch 18 in itsupper edge so that it may be slipped onto the bracket Gand a portion 19 of the bracket also forms an upper hook to engage the bowl. With this construction, the bowl is hooked onto the bracket by moving it against the face 9 of the bracket until the projection 16 can be moved down into the hooked portion 10 and the partition 11 into the slot 17 whereby the weight of the bowl sustains it upon the bracket and lateral movement of the bowl with respect to the bracket is prevented.' Means hereinafter described are also provided for preventing upward movement of the bowl.
The passage of water to the bowl from the inlet pipe 5 is controlled by a normally closed valve in the member 6 and an animal operated presser plate 20.
The valve consists of a rubber valve head 21 adapted to register with the valve seat 22 in the pipe 12 and carried by a stem 23, the valve being normally closed by a spring 24. The lower end 25 of the stem is bifurcated.

The pipe l2 has an open end closed by a plug 12 to permit access to the valve and facilitate cleaning the pipe. As will be readily obvious the tension of the spring 24, may be readily adjusted, according to the water pressure with which my device is employed, by means of the nut for retaining the valve seat 22 on the valve stem.
The presser plate is provided with pivot lugs 26, a crank portion 27, and a deliector hood 28. The lugs 26 removably fit within semicircular recesses 29 formed within spaced side portions 29 of the bowl and the crank 27 is adapted to be engageiil by the forked end 25 of the valve stem 23, and when so engaged a downward movement on the presser plate will move the valve to open position. The hood 2S on the plate directs the water downwardly into the bowl, and also acts as a stop to engage the member l2 and limit the upward movement of the presser plate. With this construction, when the presser plate is removed the valve cannot be operated by the animal. With this construction also, since the valve stem 23 is connected to the presser plate which in turn is mounted on the bowl any upward movement of the bowl with respect to the member 6 will be resisted by the spring 24 which normally holds the valve stem in its lower position.
' To secure the bowl upon the pipe, the presser plate 20 is placed in the bowl so that its pivot lugs 26 rest in the recesses 29. The bowl is then hooked onto the bracket as previously described, and in doing this the crank portion 27 of the presser plate is also brought in under the forked end 25 of the valve stem 23, and when the bowl has been aiiiXed to the bracket the valve will be normally closed, but a downward movement of the presser plate by the animal will open the valve to supply the bowl with water. The presser plate 20 may be removed from the bowl without removing the bowl from the bracket 6 and may be replaced again as the recesses 29 open upwardly and the valve stem may be moved upwardly to permit of this operation.
The presser or treadle plate, when depressed is positioned adjacent the rear wall of the bowl and out of the way of the bowl bottom so as not to interfere with the animals drinking. With the treadle in this position, the defleetor hood 28 comes into play and prevents the water being discharged into the bowl from spraying onto the animal and thus frightening the same.
That I claim as my invention is:
1. The combination oi? a support, a bodily removable bowl, a connection between said support and bowl for securing said bowl upon said support against downward movement, a supply pipe leading to the bowl, a spring pressed valve in said supply pipe, a presser plate carried by the bowl and removably connected to the yalve, and nooperating means between the presser plaie and said supply pipe :for yieldingly restraining upward movement ol said bowl with respect to its support.

3. A. stock-watering device comprising a support, opposed upper and lower hooked. portions on one face thereof, a bodily removable bowl having its rear portion (letachably engageable between said hooked portions, and means yieldingly restraining the bowl from being disengaged il'rom said support.
4l. A stock-watering device comprising a bowl, a supply pipe arranged to discharge therein, a. valve normally closing said supply pipe, a presser plate 'for operating said valve and adapted te be positioned substantially horizontal when the valve is closed and adapted to be po. tioned adjaraint the rear wall of the bowl and out olf the way when depressed to open the valve, and a` delecter hood carried by the presser plate adjacent the discharge pipe and adapted to deflect the water from said supply pipe into the bowl along the rear wall thereof' to prevent sp 'aying of the water upon the animal using the bowl.
