A TTOHNE YS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OSG-00D M. REDLON, OF BATH, MAINE.
j ADJUSTABLE LEG FOR SINKS AND OTHER ARTICLES.
To all whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, @seoonA M. REDLoN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Bath, in the county of Sagadahoc and State of Maine, have invented a new and Improved Adjustable Leg for Sinks and other Articles, of which the following is a description.
My invention relates to a supporting leg more particularly intended for use beneath sinks, trays and like articles.
The object of the invention is to provide a leg having novel means permitting of the leg proper being vertically and laterally adjusted.
More specically, the invention has for an object to provide for securing the leg to a wall or adjacent support.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example of the invention.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a leg embodying my invention showing the same in use;
Fig. 2 is an end view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the leg as indicated by the line 3 3, Fig. 2, part of the leg proper being broken away;
Fig. 4 is a transverse vertical section on the line 4--4, Fig. 3;
Fig. 5 is a plan view.
In carrying out my invention I provide a head 10 having a vertical adjustable leg 11 and a sectional cap 12 on which a sink tray or the like partly indicated atAmay rest. The head 10 presents spaced sides 13 between which the upper threaded end of leg 11 is accommodated and engages a nut 14 held in the head 10 and extending laterally through openings 15 in said sides 13 so thatthe nut is held against vertical movement, whereby a relative turning of the. leg 11 will serve to ladjust the effective vheight of the leg. ithinthe head 10 between the sides 13 thereof a guide 16 is provided for the leg 11 and may consist, as shown, of oppositely disposed spaced elements 16 U- shaped in horizontal section, the vertical side Hanges of said elements being secured to the sides 13 of head 10 by rivets 17 or otherwise suitably fastened. The leg 11 has a base- 18 preferably having a threaded connection with the bolt for adjustment, said base having vertical holes for receiving any Specification of Letters Patent. Patented J an. 11,1921.
' ,Application ledApril 1, 1920.. Serial No.`370,598. Y i i suitable fastenersv 19 to hold the base tothe lioor.
The cap sections 12 are U-shaped in vertical section to present spaced sides 2O united by end members ,20"14 and are slidably tted onto said head to be independently adjustable either relatively to each other or to the head 10. The sides 20 are braced near the ends by cross rivets or headed pins 21. At one end of one cap section the same has rigid therewith a depending bracket 22, here shown as having side flanges 22a secured by the adjacent pin or rivet 21. Said bracket 22 has a hole or holes 23 therein, whereby the bracket may be secured to a vertical wall by suitable screws or other fasteners 22". To adjustably fasten the cap sections 12 to the head 10 bolts 24 are preferably employed extending through bolt holes 12a in each section 12 and through longitudinal slots 25 in the top of head 10, there being flanges 26 stamped downwardly from the material of said head at the slots. Nuts 27 on the bolts 24 bear against the lower edges of said fianges 26.
With the described arrangement the head tudinally of that cap section 12 having the fastening vbracket 22 before or after the latter is secured in position and the other cap section 12 is adjustable by reason ofthe bolt 24 on said head 10. Thus, the le proper 11 may be adjusted vertically an independently thereof and the various transverse adjustments may be obtained to suit a given sink A or the like.
I would state in conclusion that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the mechanical details herein illustrated, since manifestly the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:'v
1. A leg structure including a head'having a leg thereon, said head presenting spaced sides and a top, said top having longitudinal slots therein at opposite sides of the leg, caps U-shape in cross section snugly and slidably fitting said head and adapted to receive the article to be supported, and
Abolts passing through said slots and adapted A10,'it will be seen, may be adjusted longi- 2. A leg structure for sinks and the like, including a head presenting a top and spaced sides depending from said top, a supporting leg on said head approximately central thereof, separate caps reach U-shaped in cross section and fitting snugly on said head at opposite sides of the leg and adjustable toward and from the position of the leg, and means independently securing said caps in adjusted position.
4. A structure of the class described, including a head having means to support the Sink, Said head having depending spaced Sides formed with horizontal slots, a nut disposed transversely of said sides and VeX- tending laterally through said slots, and a leg having a threaded upper end extending bet-Ween said depending sides and engaging said nut.
4. A structure of the class described including a head having means to support a sink .or the like, said head having depending spaced sides, a transverse nut non-tura ably held by said sides, flanged plates disposed transversely between said sides and secured thereto, said plates being disposed below ,Said nut., a leg extending 11p- Wardly .into ,Said lhead between said plates and engaging said nut. l
