motion UNITED STATES CLYDE A. TRANTHAM, KANSAS CITY, 'MISSOUBI.
FIRE-EXTIN'GUISHER. f
Specification of Letters Patent. Pate t d J 11 1921 Application filed May 23, 1919. Serial No. 299,244. 7
To all wlwm it may concern Be it known that I, CLYDE A. TRANTHAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in F ire-Extinguishers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to fire extinguishers and embodies a container supplied with a gas under pressure having chemical properties to quickly extinguish a fire.
In its simplest form the invention embodies a container supplied with the gas and provided with an outlet which is sealed with a fuse adapted to melt at a predetermined pressure. Said container may be installed directly within or upon articles in which a fire'is likely to occur, such for instance, as magazines, vaults, booths, etc., contalnmg material.
The gas may be in a liquid, dry, or vaporous state as preferred. F
In order that the invention may be fully understood, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings, in, which:
Figure 1 shows a side elevation of the apparatus applied to a motion picture projection machine.
Fig. 2 is a broken elevation partly in "section of the container. 1
A designates a motion picture projection machineequipped with the usual film magazines B and C.
1 designates a tank or container adapted to hold gas under the desired pressure. Said container 1 is provided with a needle valve 3 and a short ipe 4, through which it may be charged or ischarged as preferred. Said container 1 may be located at any-convem ient point and if desired, when used in connection with motion picture projection machines one container may be connected directly to each film magazine through the intermediacy of the pipes 4, which may project into the interior of the magazines and have their terminals sealed with fuses 6 adapted to melt at any predetermined tem-.
perature.
' In its more extensive form the invention may embody-only one container, which ma be connected to the magazines B and picture films and other combustible used as a hand fire extinguisher by removthrough distributing tubes 8, 10 and .12.
The tube 8 may be connected to the pipe 4 of the container by suitable means, such as a short piece of hose 14.
The tubes 10 and 12 zles l6 and 1.8 B and C and respectively.
desired other distributingtubes may be run to other portions of the projection machine.
The container 1 can also be carried to advantage on fire department apparatus and mg the fuse 6 from the pipe 4. and substituting a short hose for directing the gas to-any desired point after the needle valve 4 i 3, has been opened.
Gas in a dry state is, preferably, em-
ployed, as it damaging any of the contents of the build ing. Neither will it damage picture films or any portion of the pro ection machine with which it may come into contact.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure, by Leuters Patent, is
In combination with a motion picture coil formed in each branch to permit limited will extinguish a fire without projection machine having a plurality of 0' movement of the magazines, and fusible means sealing the discharge ends of said branches.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
