The recording apparatus 3 embodies a section 40 of a sunflower receiving switch, which. comprises a common contact segment 41 and a plurality of contact segments 42 to 46, inclusive, which are connected through selecting magnets 47 to 51, inclusive, to ground. The contact segments 42 to 46, inclusive, are. connected successively to the contact segment 41 by means of a revolving brush A receiving filter which embodies an inductive reactance 53 and a capacity reactance 51, is connected between the line circuit 21 and the ground, and a relay 55 is inductively connected to the inductive reactance 53 by means of a coil 56. The relay 55 is provided with an armature 56 which, when operated, connects a battery 57 to the contact segment tl of the sunflower switch.

Assuming the La. Cour motorrl to be in operation, it is apparent that the brush 20 in revolving over the segments of the trans mitting sunflower switch, will continuously impress impulses of alternate polarity upon the line circuit 21. These impulses of'low frequency from the battery 12 will operate the polarized relay (54 at the home station and the various polarized relays at the several stations along the line circuit for synchronously operating all the La. Cour motors. When the motor 1 is in operation, the contact terminals 22 to 26, inclusive, of the transmitter 19 may be selectively operated for impressing high frequency currents from the generator 37 upon the impulses that are transmitted to the line circuit 21 from battery 12. The high-frequency currents transinitted from the alternating-cu1= rent generator 37, will selectively operate. a recorder at any desired station in a manner to be hereinafter described. It should be noted, however, that the capacity rcactance 35 and the inductive reactance 3st prevent short-circuiting of the battery 12 through the segn'ients of the sunflower switch and the transmitter 19.
iissuming the filter at the station lto be adjusted to permitthe passage of currents of the same frequency as the high-frc p1ency current transmitted from a designated station, it is apparent that the relay will be operated whenever a high-frequencycurrent is received. The selective operation of the relay 55 and the rotation of the distributer brush 52 connecting the segments 42 to 46 inclusive sequentially with the common distributer ring 42 control the operation of the printing magnets 47 to 51, inclusive. The printing magnets 47 to 51 inclusive may be utilized for suitably operating any wellknown printing recorder.
It is obvious that by adjusting the filters at different stations to different frequencies,
the system may be made selective in that a station may transmit to one or more stations to the exclusion of the other stations on the same line. The necessary requirement for such a condition is that the filters at the station or stations with which communication is intended to be established, shall be adjusted to admit the passage of currents of the frequency sent out by the transmitting station, and that the filters at all other stations on the line shall be adj usted to exclude currents of that frequency.
Modifications in the system and arrangement and location of parts may be made within the spirit of the scope of this invention, and such modifications are intended to be covered by the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. In a telegraph system comprising a transmitting station and a receiving station, a line circuit connecting said stations, current impulse distributing mechanism at each of said stations, means at one of said stations for impressing on the line circuit reversals of current for synchronizing purposes, a plurality of movable contacts, means for selectively operating said contacts to impress on the line circuit, groups of high frequency signaling impulses, all of said impulses being of the same frequency, means at the receiving station responsive to said high frequency signaling impulses and signal responsive devices controlled by the conjoint action of said last mentioned means and said distributing mechanism.
2. In a telegraph system comprising a transmitting station and a receiving station, a line circuit connecting said stations, cur-- rent impulse distributing mechanism at each of said stations, means at one of said stations for impressing on the line circuit rcversals of current for synchronizing pur poses, a plurality of stationary contacts a source of alternating current supply connected to said contacts, a plurality of movable contacts normally connected to one of said current impulse distributors and adapted to be moved into engagement with said stationary contacts for impressing upon the line circuit groups of signaling impulses, all of which are of the same frequency, means at the receiving station responsive to said high frequency signaling impulses, and signal responsive devices controlled by the conjoint action of said last mentioned means and said distributing mechanism.
3. In a telegraph system comprising a transmitting station and a receiving station,
a line circuit connecting said stations, a source of synchronizing current at the transmitting station, a single source of alternating signaling current at the transmitting station, a plurality of selectively operable contacts for controlling the a plication of said signaling current to the hue circuit, means for operating said contacts simultaneously, current impulse distributing mechanism for v impressingv said synchronizlng current and said signaling current on the line simultaneously, means at the receiving station responsive only to the synchronizing current, means at the receiving station responsive only to the signaling current, recording mechanism at the receiving station, and current impulse distributing mechanism cooperating with said signaling current re-' sponsive means for controlling the operatio of said recorded mechanism.
