To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES HAINES WIL- LIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Chicago, county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Third or Fourth Point Supports for Brake-Beams, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of th ,.ecification, in which- Figure l is a plan view of a brake beam provided with my improved third or fourth point support.

This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in third or fourth point supports for brake beams of the character shown and described in an application filed by me February 25, 1918, Serial Number 219,005, of which this present application is a division.
The object of my present invention is to enable the employment of malleable, wrought iron, steel, pressed or rolled parts in the con struction of the supporting member or chair whereby the same may be quickly and easily assembled in or removed from position, the malleability of the metal readily permitting this.
Another object is to construct the support in such a way that the eyes of the clamping members thereof are integral with the rubbing shoe or wearing surface, whereby said support can be cheaply and easily manufactured. Furthermore, the support may be applied in position by the use of a single bolt which permits of its ready adjustment along the tension rod.

In the drawings, 1 indicates a part of the truck, such as the spring plank, to which is secured the inclined supporting tracks 2. 3 is the strut of the brake beam, 4 the compression member, 5 the tension member, and 6 the heads thereof.
In Figs. 2 and 3, I have shown the rubbing shoe 7 as being formed at the extremity of a tongue portion extending from theeye 9 of the clamping member which clamping member is composed of two legs, 8 and 10, one of said legs, as leg 10, being provided with a lug 11, and both of said legs being perforated to receive a clamping bolt 12, which clamping bolt, when the nut thereon is turned down, will securely lock the shoe against rotation and longitudinal displacement on the tension rod.
In Figs. 4 and 5, I have shown staggered rubbing shoes 7 whose extremities preferably overlap each other, these shoes being on the ends of oppositely disposed tongues cut in the cylindrical portion or eye of the clamping member.
It will be readily understood that minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved third or iiourth point support for brake beams may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described, without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A third or fourth point support for brake beams comprising a clamping member composed of two separate clamping legs which together form an eye for clamping a portion of the beam therebetween, including a rubbing shoe integral with and struck up from the center of the clamping members.
