Specification iin-ming part of Letters Patent N0. lial, dated February if), lcli. Y
To all whom 'it may concern;
Be it known that I, BoLivAR EAsoN, of Easonville, in the county ot' Saint Clair and State of Alabama, have invented certain newr and useful Improvements in Churning-llachiues, of which the following is a spe'citi'cation:
The object of my invention is to produce asimple, cheap, and convenient device, which may be applied to suitable vessels containing milk, and which will ett'ect the churning ot butter without having to construct the churn and its operating parts in one machine; and the improvement which I have made consists ot' a cluirning-machine having a removable bearing-bracket for the churn dasher stem, arranged to be clamped and unclamped between and upon the front standards to allow the removal and replacement ot' the ehurn-. dasher and the churning-vessel from and upon the frame for use in connection with a bandtightener formed by the upper inclined beams, to hold the tightening-roller in place, thereby producing a very cheap machine and convenient means for securing and removing the dasher and the churn.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l represents a side elevation of my improved churuingmachine. Fig. 2 represents a front view ot' the same. Fig. 3 represents a view, showing the manner ot' detaching the dasher-stem from the frame for the purpose of inserting it into or removing it from the vessel.
'lhe frame A Consists otl four uprights from a platform, two at one end supporting the axle of the drivingpulley B, and two at the other Vend acting as supports for the suspended dasher-stem. One ot' these supports, G, is lixed to the top ot' the posts, and the other, C', is arranged horizentallybetween the posts and is removable, for a purpose which will be presently described. A bami, l), passes around the pulley B, which pulley is provided with a suitable crankhaiulle,E,and this band embraces a pulley, F, on the stem 1T ot' the dasher G. rlhe top 1ails of the fame A ineline upward from the driving-pulley, and are provided on their under sides with notches (t a a, at suitable distances apart, for the reception of the journals of a roller, H, which is moved in the direction of the driving-pulley when it is desired to tighten the band, and vice versa when it is desired to loosen it. Bothl dasher-stem blocks G and U are provided with slots or openings c c, into which the spindle F is inserted and removed laterally, and which act as guides to said spindle, which is supported upon the lower block by a shoulder, d, which suspends it at the front ot' the frame. The lower block C is made removable for the purpose ot' removing the stem to insert the dasher in the vessel, and is held in place by a button, I, locking with the frame. The dasher G is provided with peculiar-shaped blades g, as shown in the drawing, located directly around the lower end of the dashstem, by means ot' which the churning is et'- fected.
By turning the crank slowly the machine will .gather the butter after the churning is done.
When it is desired to commence churning the removable spindle-block C is unlocked by the button and drawn out horizontally, and the lower dasher-end inserted into the suitaable vessel containing the milk, when the block with dasher is again adjusted, the band tightened, and churning is commenced. The milk-tub is supported upon the front end ot' the platform, and is slid oft' and on with the dasher, the removable block G serving as a handle by which to remove and insert the suspended dasher, in order to get it in 'and out ot' the pail, which latter is simply' slid oi' and on the. front end of the platform, the driv ing-band being first removed from the drivin g-pulley to allow the dasher to be dra-wn out from its supporting-blocks.
The dasher, being suspended by its collar directly upon the removable support C', leaves the dasher free to be applied to separate churn-tubs5 and therefore no bearing is required for the dasher either upon its top or bottom, but the dasher; and tub are entirely separate from each other.
rlhis arrangement is found to be very convenient, as it leaves the churn-vessel to be used for other purposes, itl necessary, and to be more easily kept clean.
rlhe dasher-stem maybe suspended from the top bearing C. v
Having described my invention, I claimm The churning-machine having the remova- 1n testimony whereof i have hereunto set bie dasher-stem bracket C', arranged to be my hand in the presence of the undersigned clamped and unoimnped by the button be- Witnesses this 20th dayof August,A.D. 1872.
tween the frame-posts, and the upper inclined 'BOLIVAR EASON. beams and tension -roller arranged to tighten Vtnesses: :md loosen the holding-band, :is shown mld S. P. MCOLEBEN,
described, and for the purpose set forth. l GEO. W. STONE.
