AM Puora-umosmPH/c c0. mqosaamafs Pnaczss) UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
'MORTON POTTER, 0E MENDON, MICHIGAN.
' IMPROVEMENT IN PLOW-WHEELS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 136,1 79, dated February 25, 1873.
cured to the shank or standard connecting it. to the beam; and consists, mainly, in the employment of independent boxes of peculiar construction in connection with the axle and hub, as will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawing, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my invention complete; Fig. 2, a front elevation; and Figs. 3 and 4, viewsof parts detached.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe fully its construction and manner of operation.
A represents the plow-wheel, of any proper size and suitable construction, which is provided with a hub having its interior surface in part of octagon form, as shown at b, Fig. 4.. O 0 represent the halves of the bearing-boxes, the outer surfaces of which correspond with the inner surface of the hub, as shown, and
theinner surfaces are adapted to inclose the axle d, of peculiar form, as shown in Fig. 3, and revolve freely thereon. These boxes haie at their inner end a projecting flange, which rests when they are in place in a recess in the axle, as shown in Fig. 3. The axle d is rigidly secured to a plate, D, which is properly bolted to the shank E, as shown in Fig. 1. F
represents a washer-rin g, and g a securing-pin by means of which the hub is held in place, as
shown in Fig. 2.
The advantage of the described construction is, that the wheel is secured to the axle without the use of bolts or screws, and the moving parts of the device are entirely inclosed, so that the entrance of dirt is effectually pre vented.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the grooved axle, the independent boxes, and the hub with the plate D and standard E, as described, for the purpose set forth. 1
