Screens; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of theinvention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in exits for window and door screens and has for one of its objectsthe provision of a device of this character which will permit flies and other insects to escape through the door or window. screen when crawling thereon.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a plurality of foraminous extensions formed on the screen and which are secured. over recesses in the door or window frame and later bent into conical formation having the apexes open and spaced from the outer face of the door or window frame so that flies and other insects on the screen may escape through the conical portion and which flies or insects will be attracted by the light through the apexes of the conical portion. 7 j
A further object of this invention is the provision of a fly exit for window screens of the above stated character, which shall be simple, durable and efficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
WVith these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of our invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which V Figure 1 is a fragmentary front elevation of a fly exit for window screens constructed in accordance with our invention,
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary horizontal sectional view of the same,
the frame as clearly illustrated in Fi 1.
The recesses 2 extend approximately rom the inner face of the frame and open outwardly through the outer face. A screen 3 of foraminous material is secured to the frame 1 by suitable fasteners 4 and has formed upon its upper edge a plurality of for-aminous extensions 5.
The foraminous extensions 5 are formed by cutting the upper edge of the screen 3 and are secured over the recesses 2 by means of fasteners 6. The extensions 5 after being V secured over the recesses 2 are bent in conical formation to form exits 6 which have their apexes open as illustrated at 7 and spaced from the frame 1 so that flies or other insects crawling upon the screen 3 may pass into the recesses 2 and outwardly through the conical exits 6 and thereby escape. The flies or insects will be attracted through the exits 6 by the light through the apexes 7 of the conical exits 6.
While we have shown and described the preferred embodiment of our invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim is: s
A fly exit comprising a rectangular frame having a plurality of recesses formed in the outer face of its upper end member, said recesses extending approximately from the inner face outwardly through the outer face of said member, foraminous material secured to the side and lower end members and having its upper end slotted to form a plurality of extensions positioned over the recesses, said extensions being first bent into conical shaped portions having their apexes open to form exits, and inclined upwardly and outwardly over the recesses to cooperate with said recesses for formlng comparatively ends bent laterally to form flanges which are secured to the upper member of the 10 frame about said recesses.
In testimony whereof we afiix our signatures in presence of two witnesses; c v GEORGE L. ZIERLEIN. OLIVER W. ZIERLEIN. Witnesses: A
