Be it known that I, ERNST HtinLIMANN, a citizen of the Swiss Republic, residing in Zuchwil,; Kanton Solothurn, Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in' and Relating to Magnetoilectric Ignition-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to magneto-electric ignition machines, more articularly for exlos'ion' motors of the ind-in which the aminated iron core carrying the coil of the ignition circuit is stationary and surrounds t e rotating magnetic poles by means of pole-pieces. The dparts which hold together the whole of the evice mechanically, consequently, more especially the casing of. the apparatus, must be made of non-magnetic material.
The objectof the invention is to provide a very simple and convenient form of mounting of the laminated iron pole-pieces'of the core carrying the coil in the casing in such a manner that the pole-shoes shall be retained exactly in the correct position without their being capable of being moved. According to the invention the pole-pieces the relative position of which is correctly determined, by means of intermediate pieces of non-magnetic material, are cast into the easing, while the closing part of the yoke which carries the enerating coil is detachahly connected witfi the pole pieces in a known manner. 1
The invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing which shows one. form of construction, and in which Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section on the line 11 of Fig. 2,

In Figs. 1 and 2, a is the casing which may for instance consist of cast aluminium and into which is cast a body which is separately shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the perspective view of the whole casing being shown in Fig. 5.
The invention consists in the provision of a sleeve portion (l with laterally extending flanges, as in Figs. 3 and 4, to which are secured, by means of bolts, rivets or screws 0, pole-pieces Z), the latter being made of a plurality of laminations of suitable magnetic metal. The bolts, rivets or screws 0 are provided with button-like heads adapted to be enga ed, or partially so, in complemental cireu ar recesses formed in the outer wall of the flanges of the sleeve portion (2. The bolts, rivets or screws 0 maybe passed di' rectly through alined openings of the several laminations of the pole pieces 6, or through a sleeve of tubular metal passed th ough the alined openings aforesaid, as shown in Fig. 2, in' a manner to associate the laminae of the pole-pieces as intimately as possible one with the other. 1 K
After the pole-pieces b have-been so assembled and secured in position on the sleeve d, an outer casing a, of aluminium or other non-magnetic material, is cast around the same, so as to form an integral structure for all practical purposes in the use of the invention, the pole-pieces being firmly held in accurate adjustment and alinement against all possible displacement or 'removal. The upper edges of the side walls of the casing a being suitably reinforced, or connected by means of integrally formed cross-pieces or bars e which are closely associated with the pole-pieces so as to further retain the latter against displacement in all directions.
As shown in the drawings, the bottom wall of the outer casing a is' formed to provide a thickened ortion extending in a longitudinal direction medially of the opposite side walls thereof, whereby to provide recesses at the opposite sides of the thickened portion for snugly receivin and embedding therein the lower ends 0 the pole-pieces b which, in addition to the integrally formed cross-pieces c, act to more rigidly hold the pole-pieces b in accurate position, and, conse uently, the sleeve or core d, being secure y bolted to the pole-' ieces and partly incasedin the outer cas mg, is also rigidly retained, both in a manner approximating an almost integral structure with the latter. The thickened portion of the bottom wall of the outer casing a is formed with its upper face transversely concaved, the curvature of which is laid on the arc of the circle described by the arma ture bore of the machine. The opposed faces of the pole-pieces b are simllarly formed and curved, and the armature bore therebetween is disposed concentrically in alinement with the circular bore "of the sleeve portion or core d.
It is to be understood that other suitable means may be employed, or resorted to, for securing the pole-pieces in proper position, in lieu of the sleeve d and the fastening devices as shown, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
hat I claim is In a magneto-electric machine, a cylindrical core, laterally extending flanges formed at one end of said core, pole-pieces bolted to said flanges invertically spaced relation, said pole-"pieces having opposed faces approximating arcs ofthe circle described by the armature bore of the machine and disposed concentrically of and in alinement with the bore of sald core, an
outer casing of a non-magnetic material cast around said core and the pole-pieces carried thereby, an intermediate portion of the bottom wall of said outer casingbeing of a greater thickness than the opposite outer portions thereof whereb the lower ends of the pole-pieces are firm y embedded in ac-- curate alinement and position, the upper face of the thickened portion of the bottom wall of said outercasing being transversely curved correspondingl with the curvature of the opposed faces 0 said pole-pieces, and cross-bars connecting the opposite side walls of said outer casing and contacting the opposite outer sides of an intermediate POP-4 tion of the upper ends of said pole-pieces whereby the latter are more firmly retained in position.
