MOVING-PICTURE FILM.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IRVIN M. BITTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buchanan, in the county of Berrien and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Moving- Iicture Films, of which the following is a specification.
Films as generally provided for kinetoscopes and moving picture mechanism are of a nature to break readily and thereby cause considerable annoyance and delay besides making a fire possible because of the delay in the feed of the film, the' latter being exposed to the heat engendered by the light rays, by means of which the picture is projected.
The present invention has for its purpose to reinforce the edges of the film in a manner to not detract from the flexibility of the film or add to its bulk or require any change in the feeding mechanism of the kinetoscope or picture mechanism.
The drawing illustrates a preferred embodiment of the invention. However, it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions, various changes in the form, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the nature of the invention as claimed hereinafter.

ed with openings 2 for receiving the cogs 0r teeth of the sprocket Wheels, by means of which the film is positively fed when in active operation. In accordance with the present invention, a line of stitching 3 is provided at each edge of the film and just .inside of the line of openings 2, said stitching being preferably of the lock type, such as made by a sewing machine having upper and lower treads. 'hile stitching of the lock type is preferred, it is to be understood that stitching-of any variety may be em ployed. By having the stitching adjacent the rows of openings and just inside thereof, the film is prevented from parting laterally, should the break tend to start at any one of the sprocket openings 2. The stitclr ing necessarily projects'slightly beyond the surface of the film and besides acting as a reinforcement to prevent lateral parting of the film, also serves as means to prevent injury to the sensitized surface of the film, so thatsuch surface is not liable to become scratched or worn by contact with parts of the mechanism or by adjacent-winds or portions of the films rubbing against each other. In addition to the lines of stitching 3, the outer edges of the film are reinforced, as indicated at 4. by the application thereto of a cement which may be of any nature to give a finished appearance to the edges of the film and materially strengthen and reinforce the same.

what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is I A moving picture film having its edge portions reinforced by the application of a suitable cement thereto and having rows of sprocket openings adjacent the reinforced edges and having lines of stitching just inside of the rows of sprocket openings.
