APPLICATION FILED JUNE 1. 1920.

PATENT OFFICE.
OTTO HLADILEK, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
CENTERINGPUNCH.
Application filed June 7, 1920. Serial No. 386,931.
To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, OTTO HLADILEK, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Chicago, in the county of (look and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Centering-Punches, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in centering-punches and has for its object to produce a centering device which shall be simple in construction and accurate and reliable in use.
li ith these and other objects in view, an embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing and is de cribed in the following specification.
In the drawingsv Figure l is a side elevation of my improved centering-punch;
Fig. 2, an end elevation thereof.
Referring to the drawings, I provide a V- blocl: 10 which is preferably made from a solid piece of square section steel and into the sides of this block are cut longitudinal V- recesses 10. These recesses, 10 are obviously at right angles to each other and may be of any desirable angle or depth.
Upon the V-block 10, I mount a slidable guide member 12 which is arranged to retain the punch 11 and to guide it longitudinally along the center line A. The guide member 12 is particularly formed with a narrow top 12 and with the side walls 12 and end walls 12 angularly disposed to provide surfaces which would be engaged only with. a glancing blow by the hammer in the event the punch was missed. The feature will not only increase the life of such devices but will keep same in better condition Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 30, 1920.
for accurate operation due to the decreased intensity of less deformation in the guide member 12.
The guide member 12 has the bottom formed with integral guide shoes 12 which extend on both sides and below the top out the V-block 10 to constantly engage it and to thus guide the member 12 with the punch 11. directly on the center line A.
A round shaft 13 for example (shown dotted) may be placed in theV-block and held rigidly to it by means of any suitable clamp, as for example the one shown dotted and indicated by numeral 14. In this manner the shaft 13 will be held in alinement for the punch indentations which may be spaced as desired by the longitudinal sliding of the member 12.
I claim: I
1. In a centering device, a V-block, a guide-member slidable longitudinally on said block, and a punch in said guide-memher, said member having extensions to guide said member longitudinally on said V-block.
2. In a centering device, a V-block, a guide-member slidable longitudinally on said block, and a punch movable in said guideanembcr, the top of said guide-memher having a limited surface to term angu larly disposed surfaces for the side and end walls.
3. In a centering guide-member said block,
device, a ll-block, a shdable longitudlnally on and a punch movable in said guidemember, the sides of said guide-member flaring outwardly from the top thereof.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name this 2nd day of June, 1920.
