PROCESS INGREASNG THE EFFGENCY AND YEEELD F AMMONIA. IN GAS- tlDUCElS-tS.
Application nieu cptemberf'), 19M.
To all to .7n/)fin t may concern.'
Be it known thatv l, iimrmiorr liorrnns, engineera residing` at Essen-ointhe-Ruhr., 29 liiioltlrestrasse, Germany, have invented certain new and nsctnl Processes tor incre-asing the lEiliciency and the Yield of Ainmonia in (laselroducers, ot which the :tollowing is a spec-intention.
This vinventionrelates to an improved process tor introducing a coinlnastible ,et-as into gas producers. and causing` said gras to burn in the. charge oi' the producer shaft.
in the production oi' gas troni all kinds ot combustibles. the ctliciency and the yield ot ammonia is increased, by the intrmluction of a combustible gas, which by ettecting an internal combustion. n'ill corresipiomlinnly increase the temperature of the zone ot' reacm tion or conversion. In carryingv ont this op eration. two considerations must he borne in mind. The gras and the air supplied trom below the grate must comminnjle at. or in the immediate vicinity ot the. zone oi conversion. so as to avoid useiess combustion and danger or' explosion. (ln the other hand. the gras and air carried to said zone ot conyersifni-r must be so atomized that the combustion will be actually restricted to said zone.
By my invention the above conditions are effectively fulfilled. iccordingi` to the saine.
air passes trom below throi'igrh the apertures of a rotatable grate. n'hile the nas tions i along' radial channels ot the A: ,irate between said apertures. These channels. are ted irom a common `as supply pipe. so that the ,Qas and air will not meet until reachingi the upper surface ot the conical grate.. Where they will be discharged in the torni of a spray. The temperature of the zone of con- `Version is al 'nys so high that the air and gras will be ignited. and will burn at a ratio corresponding to the ifiroportions. ot' air and gas in the mixture. so that any danger ot explosion is obviated. Owing to the uniform regulation ot the combustion, the intended heating olf the Zone. oiE conversion is thus carried ont in an eliicient manner.

part oi a gas. producer adapted for carrying my invention into effect, and
Fig. 2 a plan oi' the grate.
In the shaft l() of the producer is arranged the rotary grate ll, which is sealed against the casing 13 by means of the hydraulic seal l2. into thecasing 13 air and steam mined, are introduced by pipe 14C and enter the charge by the holes l5 of the grate 16.' Between the holes l5 radial channels 17 are arrangedj which communicate with the ring' channel 1.8, the latter being connected with the central pipe 19. A hydraulic'seal 2t) allows the pipe if) to turn around the tixed ras conduit 2l. To maintain this inner seal 9.0 constantly iiiled. in a simple inanner a pipe 22 connects it with. the outer Seal l2. rihe channels 1T have apertures 23 by which the gras is Aintroduced.'into the charge in a tine divisionand in proximity to the air. The steam .introduced into the producer is required for the primary produc tion of ammonia. By the imrcduction of a4 combustible gas along with the steam and the burning oi.lr sa id gras in thev producer, the temperature of the conversion Zone is increased and secondary decomposition of the ammonia is prevented. in this Way the sup# ply ot gas is ettected in the manner desired.
What l claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States ist* i. Si process ior increasing` the eil'iciency and the yield ot ammonia in. gas-producers consisting; in an internal heatingT of the charge by introducing' a combustible and causing its combination in the interior of the cha ree 'the ras and air ot' combustion beingintroduced in atomized distributed in close, proximity to each other.
2. A process tor increasingr the eiiiciency and the yield ot ammonia in gaslproducers consisting' in'. an internal heatingr of the charge by introducin;` a combustible gas and causing*r its combustion in the interior ot the charge'. the uns and air oil combustion beine; introduce zn atomized jets. distributed in close p1',ximity to each other and Flowing in a whirling` manner into a zone oi" conversion within the interior of the charge.
3. T1ie`piocess 0i increasing the efficiency 5 quired :for the primary production of animoiiia, and burning' said- Combustible gas inside the producer, thereby incieasing the temperature of the conversion zone and picventing` secondary devoinpvosition of the ammonia.
