JAMES TOBSTEN SANDBERG, 0F G'bT TENBORG, SWEDEN.
PULLEY.
To all whom it moi concern;
Be it known that I, JAMns TonsrEN SAND- nnnc, citizen of Sweden, residing at Gottenberg, in the county of Gottenborgs and Bohus Ltin, Sweden, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pulleys, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention has reference generally to improvements in pulleys and more particularly relates to a belt pulley having a detachable rim.
Briefly stated the invention consists of a body provided with a plate-shaped circumferential web portion which/constitutes an efiective supporting surface for the rim and in addition includes means for detachably clamping the rim in position.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing in'which:-
. Figure 1 is a side elevation of one form of the improved pulley.
Fig. 2 is an end elevation partly in section thereof.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the pulley according to another embodiment of the invention, and
Fig. i is the end view of the part shown in Fig. 3 partly in section.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanyin drawings there is provided spokes or arms 2 which are joined at their the hub portion 3 and at their outer ends connected with the juncture and between oppositely inclined portions of the annular web portions 5, 6. A 'rim 4 preferably of sheet iron is now arranged about the web portion 5 and has its adjacent terminals bent inwardly to form substantial hooks 10 which are positioned in a recess 11 in the web portion and engaged by a screw bolt 9 so as to be held against displacement. Diametrically opposite the recess llthe web signature Specification of letters Patent. Patented N 23, 1920. Application filed December 24, 1919. Serial No. 347,245. i i
portion is provided with another recess 12 which receives a counterbalancing weight and which. weight in turn is retained by'the rim. L As shown the hub portion of the p ll ley is preferably constructed in two sections means such as screwbolts 13.
In Figs. 1 and 2 the web portion has a which are clamped to the shaft by suitable wave-like form whereas in 'Figs. 3 and 4. the
web portion'o is ofa zigzag shape. However, in both cases the waves or 'zigzags are arranged radially to the rim 4:. 7
As is apparent by employingthe present construction a larger carrying capacity is obtained by the pulley because of the fact that the web p'ortion'is actuallybroader than the web portion of other types of pulleys and this wider breadth is obtained without increasing the weight. 1
It is believed that in view of the foregoing a further detailed description of the invention is entirely unnecessary. Likewise it is believed that the advantages of the invention will be readily apparent.
' Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is 2-- A belt pulley composed of a pair of-sections each including a hub, spokes radiating therefrom and a wave-like web portion connected with the outer ends of the spokes, means for connecting'the hub portionstogether, the web portions being provided with opposed recesses, a rim surrounding the wave-like web portions and formed with inturned ends receivable in one of the recesses,
clamping means engaging the .inturned ends of the rim and a counter-balancing weight in the other recess and retained by the rim.
In testimony whereof I have ailixed my- JAMES Tonsrnn SANDBERG.
