-k\\\\ w I INVENTOI? 26 Myiro lfremeniuilc BY AITORNEY MYTRO rmnvxEiIII'IK, or VIRGINIA, MINNESOTA.
LEATHER-STRAP CUTTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application fil ed May I1, 1920. Serial No. 380,582.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MYTRO KREMnNIfIK, a citizen of Ukrainia, residing at Vir inia, county of St. Louis, and State of NInnesota, have invented certain new and useful.
Improvements in Leather-Strap Cutters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to. a machine for cutting leather, particularly leather waste into straps or strips.
It is the principal'object of the invention to provide a simple, reliable and effective machine for the purpose in view, and it consists in certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 is a front view of a machine constructed according to the present invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on'line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4; is a sectional view taken on line et-4 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 5 illustrates in top plan detail View, a
leather disk prepared for cutting straps therefrom by the operation of my machine.
The machine comprises a base 10 for two.
vertical side elements 11, and 12 to which a top plate 13 is secured by screws'14 or the like.
The front'edge of the plate 13 is rounded as at 1.5. In front of said rounded edge 15, spaced therefrom a shaft 16 is journaled in bearings 17 and 17, and the reduced end of the shaft 16 projects over the side of the side element 11 and carries a crank arm 18 with handle 19.
To the top plate 13 are secured any number for instance as shown, two sector-shaped holders or guides 20 by means of screws 21 or the like for the leather disks 22 which are placed thereunder as illustrated in Fig. 2, so that they are frictionally held or guided.
Below and in front of each guide 20, the top plate 13 is provided with an incision or transverse slot 23, and a guide bracket 24 for a curved knife 25 is secured to the underside of said top plate by screws 26.
The knife projects with its upper sharpened and bent end 27 through the slot 23.
over the upper face of the top 13 and engages a leather disk-22 held in the guide 20 .in the manner illustrated in Fig. 2.
From the foregoing it will be clear thatv the leather disks 22 before they are inserted below the guide 20 must be prepared in the signature.
Patented Nov. 23, 1920.
manner illustrated in Fig. 5, by cutting a tangential strip 28 from the disk, whereupon the disk is placed underneath of the guide 20 with the knife located at the point of union 29, between disk 22 and the tangential strip 28. If now, the free end of the strip 28 is secured by a nail 30 or the like to the shaft 16 and the same is rotated by means of the crank 19, the strip will wind itself upon the shaft 16 during the rotation of the same as indicated at 31 and the pull exerted on the strip 28 during this operation of the crank 19 will guide or draw the disk 22 against the knife imparting to the disk a rotary motion, thus cutting the diskv into a strap 28.
The machine hereinbefore described is susceptible of changes in the form and minor details of construction which may be accordingly resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is- 1. A machine of the character described comprising a frame, a top plate secured on' said frame, said top plate provided with incis ons on its rounded front edge, a plurality of guides secured to the upper face of said top platefor frictionally guiding and holding leather disks having a length of tangential strap out therefrom, a curved knife in the incisions of said plate adapted to work against said disk and strap at their point of union, a bracket on the underside of said plate to whi h said knife is secured,"a
shaft in front of said plate, means for securing the free end of thestrap' to said shaft and means for rotating said shaft.
2. A machine of the character described comprising a frame including a slitted top plate, a plurality of guides for prepared blanks of waste leather having a short length of tangential strip out therefrom, adapted to be frictionally guided and held underneath of each guide, a shaft journaled in hearings on said frame in front of the rounded edges of said top plate, nails for securing the free end of the strip to said'shaft, a curved knife adapted to engage the leather disk at the point of union with the tangential strip, means for securing the knife to said plate, and a crank arm on said shaft for rotating the same, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my [MYTRO KREMENlfIK.
