I claim:
1. In an apparatus of the character de scribed, the combination with a tub and beater roll, of means for screening the stock, said means being located adjacent the roll and against which the stock is adapted to be thrown from the roll by centrifugal action; a pipe extending cross-wise of said screen ing means and to which water is adapted to be supplied under pressure. said pipe having a longitudinally extending slot thereon through which the water is adapted to be projected i a curtain on to said screening means to thereby flush the latter: and means for supporting said pipe including an element having a finger extending into said slot, said supporting means and pipe being adapted for relative movement whereby said slot may be cleared by said fingerv upon such relative movement.
2. In an apparatus of the character described; the combination with a tub and a beater roll: of means extending in an are substantially concentric with said roll for s-reening stock thrown thereagainst by cen tri't'ugal action from the roll: and a pipe to which water is adapted to be supplied under pressure, said pipe being disposed adjacent said screening means on the outer side thereof and near the top, said pipe having means for projecting water therefrom sub stantially tangential to the screening means.
3. In apparatus of. the character described, the combination with a tub and beater roll. of a reticulated member arranged substantially concentric with the beater roll and against which the stock is adapted to be thrown by centrifugal action with substantially uniform distribution thereover and means for directing water onto the outer side of said member to thereby flush oli from said outer side those portions of the stock which are projectedthrough the openings of said member.
i. In an apparatus of the character described, the combination with a tub and heater 'roll; of a perforated stock-grading screen, the screen being curved in cross section; and means for projecting a water spray tangential to said perforated screen on-the side thereof remote from the roll whereby the water so projected is adapted to simul' taneously remove those portions of the stock passing through the screen to the outer side thereof and clear back from the inner side into the tub, those portions of the stock tailing to pass through the screen.
In apparatus oi the character described,
the combination with a tub and beater roll' of a stock-grading screen above the tub substantially concentric with the roll and extending over a relatively large arc of the periphery of the roll, said roll being adapted to throw the stock by centrifugal action against said screen with substantially uni form distribution thereover. and means for simultaneously removing those portions of the stock passingthrough the screen to the outer side thercoi and clearing back from the inner side of the screen into the tub those portions of the stock failing to pass through the screen.
6. In apparatus of the character die scribed, the combination with a beater roll,-
ot a screen curved substantially concentric ith the roll, a water supply pipe disposed adjacent said screen on the outer side thereof and having means for projecting water under pressure substantially tangential to said screen.
7 In apparatus of the character described, the combination with a tub and heater roll, of a perforated plate extending over a portion of the periphery of the roll and against which the stock is adapted to be projected by centrifugal force, a pipe adapted to be supplied with water under pressure and located on the outer side oi said plate at the top of the perforations therein, said pipe being provided with. a substantially continuous slot disposed to project a curtain of water along the outer surface of said perforated plate to dash the outer side thereof and force back into the tub those portions of the stock failing to pass through the perforations.
In witness that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto subscribed my name his 11th day of December, 1918.
