FIG-31 h 3 w d f M E W V J w 7 5 1 5 6 0 a my UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD H. ANGLE, 0F PASADENA; CALIFORNIA.
TABLE.
Application filed September 17, 1919. Serial No. 324,260.
To all 107mm it may concern."
Be it known that I EDWARD H. ANGLE, a citizen of the United States,'and a resident of Pasadena, in the county of Los Angeles, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tables, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates particularly to tables employed by dentists, surgeons or other such professional practitioners for carrying within easy reach the tools, implements, materials and devices as may be required whileoperating, and is especially directed to tables adapted for the practice of orthodontia.
The principal object of my invention is to provide a table that may be moved lineally toward and away from the patient in the chair, into the most convenient position for the needs of the operator.
Other object of my invention are to provide a table that may be moved with minimum effort, that will move smoothly to avoid displacing implements or materials supported thereon, and that will maintain adefinite relation to the chair irrespective of its distance therefrom.
My invention comprehends a table having a portable base upon which it may be rela tively reciprocated in parallel relation to the plane of said base.
The form of my invention as hereinafter described, comprises a table having an elongated top disposed transversely to the central longitudinal plane of an operating chair, and provided with spaced legs or standards having casters or rollers arranged to traverse suitably spaced tracks extending parallel with said plane, on a portable base boardplate. Said rollers and tracks coiSpcrating to maintain a smooth and easy movement of said table toward and from said chair,'in a lineal direction.
My invention also includes all of the various novel features of construction and arrangement as hereinafter more definitely duly distracting his attention.
' base, taken on the line 3--3 in Fig. 1, and
conveniently showing a fragment of the right hand leg. T
in said figures the table comprises the top or tablet '1, legs 2 and 3 terminating in feet 4 and 5, and the base 6, which is preferably ed to rotatein suitable bearings 10 and 11,
and to traverse tracks 12 and 13 which may preferably be formed of strap metal inlaid in said base 6, with their exposed surfaces flush with the top surface of said base.
As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the left-hand track 12 is provided with a small rib 15 extending longitudinally thereof, and arranged to engage in the grooves 16 in the rollers 7, and cotiperate therewith to guide the movement of the table in a lineal path, and to consequently cause the plain faced rollers 8 to traverse the plane surface of the right-hand track 13, as shown in Figs. 1 and 8.
The lineal movement of the table is arranged to be effected in parallel relation to the longitudinal plane of the operating chair, whose axis is indicated by the vertical dot and dash line 19 and whose circular base is indicated by the elliptical dot and dash line 20, the table base 6 being pro- I vided with the semi-circular indenture 22. for the convenient reception of said chair base, thus affording a greater range of movement of the table toward the patient in the chair, and thereby permitting the operator to utilize the table as an arm-rest, which is to be desired in the delicate and tedious operations incident to the practice of orthodontia.
It may be here noted that in the practice or orthodontia, it may be necessary to move the table toward and from the operating chair many times during a single visit of a patient, and that in order that the table may be most convenient for the use of the operator, it must be capable of being moved forward and backward in a definite relation tothe chair, in the easiest possible manner, so that the operator may instantly gain access to his instruments without un- Furthermore, the table must move smoothly so as to avoid displacing the instruments or materials which may be supported thereon.
made therein without departing from the with'the foot of the operator whose operatin position is at the right of the chair.
T do not desire to limit my invention to the precise details of construction and arrangement as herein set forthyas it is obvious' that various modifications may be essential features of my invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus descirbed my invention, I claim:
1 A table having a portable base, and provided with legs having rollers; the rollers of one leg being grooved, While the rollers of the other leg have plain cylindrical surfaces; spaced tracks in the surface of plain surface rollers may roll, and the other having a longitudinally extended rib engaged in the groove of said grooved rollers.
2. A table having a base, and provided with legs having rollers arranged to traverse the surface of said base in a lineal direction, said base having an indenture in one side thereof for the reception of the base of an operating chair with which said table may cooperate, and tracks in said table base for said rollers, extended-to embrace said chair base.
In witnessvwhereofl have hereunto set my hand this 11th day of Septernper, A; D. 1919.
