7 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ABRAHAM Mossovr'rz, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Life-Preservers, of which the following is a specification. v
This invention relates to improvements 1n life preservers and has for its object to provide an improved construction of deviceoi this character which may be readily carr ed by a person in a folded or compact condit on when not in use and which can be readlly 1nflated and put into condition for use.
The invention is illustrated in the accom panying drawing, wherein,

-eferring to the drawing by reference characters, 5, designates a tube of a mater1al such as rubber, which will retain air, which tube has two ends in distinction to being an endless or circular tube. A small tube 6, is
connected to one end of the larger tube and said small tube has a valve device 7, which, when the tube is inflated, may be closed to retain the large tube in the inflated conchtion.
The large rubber tube is provided with a fabric strip 8 which is preferably cemented to the outer side thereof whereby to form a flap substantially from one end to the other of said tube, for a purpose that will presently be explained.
An outer inelastic covering tube 9, preferably of a fabric, entirely incloses and covers the inner elastic tube, and this outer tube and the fabric strip 8, or flap, are permanently secured together, as for example bv a row of stitches 10.
U These stitches 10, are simply taken through the outer casing or tube andthe strip or flap, and do not pass through the inner rubber tube because if taken through the rubber they would permit a leakage of air from the inner tube.
The outer tubeor casing has two ends 11 and 12 in which the two ends of the inner elastic tube are confined, and I provide novel means at these ends for securing them together so as to form a circular or ring-shaped device as will now be explained.
One end of the outer casing or covering 9 carries a coupling sleeve 13 of flexible fabric. In the present instance this sleeve is secured near one end by stitching 14;, to the end 11, of the covering tube 9 and has a series of buttons 15 and buttonholes 17 adjacent its free edges whereby the same may be lapped about the two adjacent ends Specification of Letters Patent. When the two ends. of the tube 9 are i brought together the sleeve will be folded around said ends and the fasteners engaged so that when the inner tube is inflated the device will assume the shape shown in Fig. 1.
An opening 20 is provided in the sleeve so that the small filling tube 6, may be passed therethrough' when the sleeve is fas tened and in the attached position.
Obviously any form of fastening devices, such as snap fasteners may be employed instead of the buttons and buttonholes.
Having described my invention, I claim,
1. In a life preserver, the combination with an inner elastic tube having two ends, of an outer tube also with two ends and covering the inner tube, and a flexible sleeve lapping the two ends and secured about the latter.
2. In a life preserver the combination with an inner elastic tube having two ends, of an outer tube having two ends, a strip attached to the inner tube and also connected to the other tube whereby to secure the two tubes together and a coupling device to unite the two ends of the tubes.
