IMPROVEMENT IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF METALLIC SIEVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,925, dated February 18, 1873,
CASE A.
. ments in Metallic Sieves, of which the following is a specification Nature of the Invention.
This invention relates to that class of metallic sieves which have a metallic hoop or band, with a wire or sieve cloth secured to its bottom, and adapted to family use for sitting meal, &c.; and the invention consists in the peculiar manner in which the wire or sieve cloth is secured to the bottom of the metallic hoop or band.
In the accompanying drawing, which forms part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a vertical central sectional view of the metallic hoop and wire-cloth attached. Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the same and Fig. 3, a vertical central sectional view, showing a narrower hoop and a single instead of a double fold of the bottom of the metallic hoop or band to secure the sieve-cloth.
To enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention, Iproceed to describe the same with particularity, referring (in so doing to the aforesaid drawing by the use of letters of reference thereto.
General Description.
A represents the metallic hoop or band of the sieve. B represents the sieve-cloth, made of wire or other suitable material. To secure the sieve-cloth within the bottom of the metallic hoop or band A, the lower edge of said band is" turned in horizontally, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, at that part designated by the letter C, which forms a bottom for the sieve to rest on when placed on a shelf or other similar receptacle. The inner edge of the bottom of this hoop turned up, and the edge of the wire-cloth placed over it, so that, when this edge of the hoop is pressed or folded down in the position shown at Din the drawing, the edge of the.
wire-cloth is clasped between the folds of the edge of the hoop A, and firmly held in place, as shown. 4
It will be observed that, when the edge D of the metallic hoop or bandA is pressed down, thewire-cloth B is stretched or strained tight, andis held firmly in place by its edge being securely clasped between the folds in the edge of the hoop or band, as above described.
Fig. l of the drawing shows a double fold of the bottom of the metallic hoop or band A, clasping a double fold in the edge of the hoop cloth, instead of a single fold, as in Fig. 3.
I do not claim to be thefirst to make what is called a double scam in the manufacture of articles'of tin-ware, to fasten together the different pieces of tin used in making such articles; but
What I do claim as new, and desire to seture by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the hoop or band A and the sieve-cloth B, secured together by the folds O and D, substantially as and for thepurpose specified. 7
