To all whom 'it/may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT F. HEINE, a subject of the King of England, residing at Quincy, in the county of Adams and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 'in Bath Devices, of which the following is a description.

My invention belongs to that general class of devices known as bath or bathing devices or fixtures, and relates particularly to a device for use in rural communities where the usual facilities for bathing, including running water, bath tub and other conveniences, may not be found. The invention is'particularly designed to provide a convenient device which will in so far as .possible take the place of the usual facilities found in cities, but will be sanitary, convenient anfl eiiicient although only using a minimum amount of water. The invention has among its objects the production of a device of the kind described that is simple, convenient, sanitary, durable, efficient, ornamental and satisfactory for use wherever found applicable. More especially it has as an object` the production of a device which will be suitable for use in rural communities, as previously referred to. Many other'objects and advantages of the. construction herein shown and described will be obvious to those skilled in the art from the disclosure herein given.

To this end my invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts herein shown and dcscribed. and more particularly pointed out in the claims.

lieferung to the drawings, l represents a casing part .which is preferably anged as at 2 to provide a cup-shaped receptacle, the same having a part .formed as at 3 so Aas to form a part of the walls of a chamber. -A part 5 arrangiged with discharge openings 6 therethrough is arranged as shown, so that a distributing chamber is provided to which water is admitted through tubular part la as will be hereafter described.4 Passage of' the water from the distributing chamber through the holes 6 is'controlled by a valve 7 of leather, rubber or equivalent material carried on a pin 8 or-its equivalent. I- prefer to provide a plate 7', the purpose of which is to reinforce and support valve 7, which is substantially soft or flexible and might become too muchso owing to the water. The casing lis arranged to contain a sponge pad or body 9 of suitable material, for example spongyrubber orthe equivalent, which is preferably incased in a container 10 of cloth or other suitable material which will permit the water to pass through. It might be mentioned that the containerl 10 is preferably so made that the sponge or body 9 may be removed therefrom and the parts thoroughly cleaned. The sponge and its container are shown maintained in .place by a. retaining ring 11 of asize to closely lit the walls 2 of the casing. so that the same will be retained by the friction, but may be removed when desired. The .advantages oi. shower baths are so well knownthat the same need not beelaborated on nor referred te here.A With my apparatus it is possible `tor every home not equipped with modern bathing'facilities tohave a convenient and eiiicient equipment, so that the user may have all `the advantages at4 a nominal eX- pense. My construction is sanitary, simple and durable. and consists of a small number ot parts. There are no springs 'or similar devices in the valve that will get out of order orbreak.l thereby rendering the device inoperative. The sponge audits container so retards the iiow ot water that while there is plenty for the purpose, there is no water wasted. Thus it is not necessary to be troubled in constantly refilling the container or using anunduly large container.

Having thus described my invention,` itis obvious that variousl immaterial modifications inay be made in the same without departing from the spirit of my invention; hence do notwish to be understood as limiting myself to the exact form, construction, arrangement and combination of parts here in shown and described, or uses mentioned.

That l claim'as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

a cup shapedcasing provided with an inlet through one o't' the walls thereof, a valve for closing said inlet, a yieldable sponge pad arranged within the casing and having a. portion thereotl projecting beyond the casing, the valve being adapted to be opened by the pressure of the water contacting therewith, said pad abutting said valve to close the same upon an inward movement of the pad. v

Ina device of the kind described and in combination, a cup shaped casing having one side open and provided with a chamber 4in the other side having an inlet, and outlets leading from the casing, a valve arranged to control the vpassage .of water through said outlets, a sponge pad arranged in the path of the water discharged from said outlets,

`friction means for normally preventing the withdrawal of the pad from the casing, the valve being adapted to be opened by the pressure of water passing from the easing, said pad coperating with the valve to close the same upon an inward movement ot the pad in the casing.

, 3. ln a device of the kind described, a casing having a water chamber provided with a water inlet and outlet, a cleansing pad arranged within the casing and Vmounted for a yielding movement relative to said casing,

coperatilig means between the casing and the pad for preventing the entire Withdrawal of the pad from the casing, a slid- .able valve for controlling the passage of water from the water chamber operable by thepressure of the water in said chamber to open the same, said pad when moved to an inward position abutting the valve to close the same.

4. A sponge pad of the kind described comprising a suitably shaped casing provided with a recess in one of the walls thereof and with a cover plate for said recess, the walls of said recess and said cover plate constituting substantially a water distributing chamber, said casing provided with an inlet to-said chamber, a sponge pad arranged in said casing projecting thereout, means for securing said pad in place, said cover plate provided with openings therethrough, a valve member secured to said cover4 plate between the plate and said Y sponge pad and movable outwardly, whe-re- L0 pressure of the water passing from the reservoir and seid pad abutting said valve to close the same by an inward movement of the sponge pad.
