I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. [The invention is clearly defined. and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which:

Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 209,536.
Referring to the drawings, I provide a base .1, preferably a casting, having a central rectangular opening 2 therein. The base illustrated is provided with legs 3. I provide a burner plate 4 which in the structure illustrated has a plurality of burner openings 5, a channel 6 at the rear of the openings, a flange 7 at the front and lugs 8 positioned between the openings. This plate is supported in an elevated position above the opening 2 of the base by means of the yoke-shaped bracket 9 which has laterally extending ends 10 secured to the under side of the base 1 by the screws 11. burner plate is secured to the cross portion of the yoke by means of the screws 12. ' multiple burner 13 has a plurality of burner tips 14- which are disposed in alinement with the burner openings 5. The burner 13 has projecting lugs 15 at its ends secured to the depending lugs 16 by means of the screws 17.
The gas supply pipe 18 is connected to the burner from the rear. The delivery of to the burner iscontrolled by a valve having a stem 19 projecting centrally at the front below the base.
A fire back 20 of earthenware material is mounted in the channel 6 of the burnerplate. In front of the fire back 20 and between. the flange 7 and positioning lugs 8 I arrange the radiants or radiating elements 21 which are positioned and supported by these'parts above the burner openings and, the burner tips. These radiants aretubular in form with openings of suitable design, the openings of the radiants shown being more or less conventional.
I provide a body member 22, preferably of earthenware material consisting of a back wall portion 23, end wall portions 24 and a front portion 25. The body member is of such size as to embrace the burner plate and the tire back and rest upon the base plate, no attaching means to the base plate 1 0 being required as the body member when formed of earthenware material is of considerable weight. The front portion 25 is disposed below and in front of the burner plate so that the radiants are exposed. To prevent the radiants tilting forwardly 'I provide a cross rod 26 carried by the body member.
With the parts thus arranged they are comparatively simple and economical to produce and assemble. The structure is highly ornamental in appearance and well adapted for use in a grate in lieu of a gas log or the like.
