To all whom t 'may concern f Be it known that l, lanceur S. lllosrrnmr, a citizen of the United States, and residing` at Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain ne.'v and useful improvements in Powders Puffs, of which the following` is a specification, such as will enable those slrilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to the manufacture of what are known as powder puffs and particularly to two-faced powder puffs, and the object of the invention is to provide a device or devices of the class described which is strongand durable, sanitary in use, and which may be washed or cleaned whenever desired; and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in a powder puff of the class specified which is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention described and claimed herein is what l call the reinforced rubber-set powder puff in which rubber or other adhe-l sive material is used for the purpose of securing the separate puff bodies together, and said rubber or adhesive material is reinforced by fibrous or other material embedded therein, and the invention constituting the subject-matter of this application covers divisional matter of a prior application filed by me April 5, 1919, Ser. No. 287,674, and is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view of a complete powder puff made accordingto my invention, with part of the construction broken away and in section;

puff and in securing` two of these body parts together, l first apply to one face of said body parts a coatingof adhesive material lll in a liquid or plastic state, the adhesive material being,` preferably rubber. This adhesive material is applied when the fibrous bodies are in their compressed state within the sleeve 13 as shown in Fig. 3.

In making up the puff shown in Fig. 1, two fabric strand bodies 15 treated in the manner shown in Fig. 3 are placed together, or the faces of said bodies to which the adhesive material is applied are brought together. 1n this operation a reinforcing member 16 preferably composed of a sheet of fibrous material is placed between the abutting faces of the fabric strand bodies 15 in the manner shown in Fig. 4, and in this operation the opposite end portions 17 of a ribbon or band 18 are also placed between the member 16 and one of the fabric bodies 15. Vith the parts in the position shown in Fig. 4l, the separate bodies 15 are brought together under slight pressure, while the adhesive material 14 is still in its plastic state, and these bodies are held together for a suiiicient time to insure the proper connection of said bodies. i

@n the completion of the above operations a complete powder puff such as that shown at 10 in Fig'. 1 will be produced, and vthis puff consists of two puff faces 19 and 2O joined by a central strip of adhesive material 21. preferably rubber, and this strip 21 is reinforced or strengthened by the reinforcing member or sheet 16. Upon removing the sleeves 13 from the fabric strand bodies l 15 in the method of making; the device it faced powder puffs and securing the sepa rate faces 10 and 20 together by the sheet 21 of adhesive material, preferably rubber, the separate strands 23 of the bodies 15, or the inner ends thereof, are set in the sheet 21 as clearly illustrated in Fig. 5. It will, therefore, be seen that when rubber is employed in the sheet 21 l produce a rubber set two-faced powder puff, and by embed ding; the reinforcing sheet in the sheet Q1,

the possibility of tearing the sheet 2l is obviated, the sanitary qualities of the pufiI retained and the washing or cleansingthereof whenever desired made possible.

Having fully described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l.V A two-faced powder puff of the class described comprising` two similar body portions, each of which is composed of a plurality of fabric strands, an intermediate sheet composed of adhesive material to the opposite faces of which the separate fabric strands of said bodies are secured and a reinforcing sheet embedded in said inter1nediate sheet.

2. A two-faced powder puff of the class described comprising two similar body portions, eachof which is composed of a plurality of fabric strands the adjacent faces of said bodies being secured together by a sheet of rubberized material to the opposite side faces of which the separate strands of the body portion are secured, and a fabric re inforcing sheet embedded in said sheet of rubberized material.
